My turn to contribute. I have a white 2019 TRD sport. Noticed some paint flaking off the rear edge of the rear driver side door window like many pictures here. Shook my head in disgust as there’s been speculation 2019 and newer are not experiencing this issue. Brought it to the dealer a couple weeks later and luckily met a service advisor who stated he just helped a guy with the same problem. Didn’t make any promises but was optimistic Toyota would make it right based on his last experience, the fact I was at 37k miles and I have the extended warranty, and my truck is in very good condition. Asked me to come back another day so he could have a local body shop they use inspect the truck and provide a quote. After that, waited a couple weeks and Toyota said they’ll pay to repaint the door. Overall, I was disappointed this issue was present in a 2019 but at least they fixed the issue without reservations. Naturally I’m worried other panels on the truck will start exhibiting this same paint defect but not much I can do but cross that bridge when I get there.

Wow. First I've heard of this issue. Bought my 2018 brand new and detail it regularly and have yet to notice any issues. Definitely going to be looking a lot closer this weekend.

So far I've had some issues that were all covered under warranty which was pretty frustrating but if I see the paint start to go that would probably be it for me and I'd be selling it

Toyota not being a stand-up company and fixing their paint error probably won't help with the brand loyalty factor...

Perfect, we bought my wife's 2002 WHITE rav 4 from there. I put a deposit down there on a 2022 TRD OR Lunar rock and after 5 months they weren't able to get me shit. Luckily I found one in GA. so glad to know they took care of you since we bought my wife's car there.

Well, I will let you know when it's all over. Took a lot -- A LOT -- of effort to get to this point. They've had the truck now for 3 weeks...hopefully I will be getting it back soon.

I’m curious, do you think preventing this by putting the paint film over prone areas is the way to go?

From what I understand, no. It's a paint bonding issue.

Got my truck back after five weeks from the local Toyota dealer who was addressing the paint issue on my 2017 Taco. Return was delayed a week when the glass company broke the regulator and motor to the rear window. The finished work looks good and you'd be hard pressed at this point to spot the repaint and blending. I can only imagine what this is costing Toyota -- the fully-covered repair bill was $5,228.46 and that did not include the 5 weeks of a rental car!
This saga started 3 years ago when I first noted the paint issues but I kept getting blown off by the dealer. Finally, the past 6 months of hard, persistent pressure got this resolved. Not sure I will ever buy another Toyota after this nonsense.

    Welcome to the club.

I just spent my own money to have it fixed by a body shop and am trading it in on an F150. What I should've bought in the first place.

Also I just found a completely different spot where it looks like it's almost ready to go. What a pile of garbage.

Basically keep an eye on door seams/jambs, around the windows, the edges of the roof near the windshield, edges of rear bumpers and around the parking/backup sensors.

OUCH. Glad I avoided having to spend my own $$ on the fix...ridiculous that Toyota is pleading ignorance on this when so many people are having the exact same obvious issues.
Wondering if I should take the truck in and try to hustle for a good pay-out from the thirsty dealer and buy something different...I have a feeling the paint issue will resurface in the future.

If it's fixed sell it. Wish I'd sold mine back when it was fixed the first time (front fenders).

It doesn’t stop spreading. Something is definitely wrong if the paint falls off when you touch it. From a little spec of primer showing 6 months ago to this. I’m considering DIY options at this point since Toyota is giving everyone else such a hard time, but I’m going to try Brand Engagement first.02CF647E-FCD4-4357-9157-CE09EDD0DD41.jpg78C1E4FD-16E6-4AE0-A7EA-033F1BDD5B47.jpg

Someone should make a poll for the "yes" folks regarding the year their car was made.
