That's huge; surprised no one's stated that by now.

I'm surprised no one's fucked with it really, got a lot of bright minds here alone in the thread.

Takes me back to the old Linksys routers people would toss up for free or as little as $5 with it's old Linux based software that can easily be overwritten.

The follow-up question to "I was there for 11 years" is always "why'd you leave?"

Relocating is one that employers are normally "ok" with it seems, at least that's what I'm guessing based on the 3 job offers I've gotten lately.

A good simple answer is that you're just looking to better yourself. Or that your last job wasn't challenging enough etc. Saying management was crap or something along those lines isn't good, no matter how much you hated the place.

Don't have to tell me about that last part

It's the whole maintaining professionalism that employers are always looking for.

The looking to better myself did kind of come out, by accident of course. I mean, who goes from managing a bunch of miscreants that sell cars at a huge dealership to gluing metal together?

Eh, Id describe that as somewhat of a midlife crisis or just wanting a change of pace. My community college was full of guys like you. Worked desk jobs for 20 years and just got sick of it.

@Running Board Man, if I were in your shoes and really wanted a new job, Id go to a local factory and get on as a line worker. Work a few months doing the mindless button pressing/pallet stacking then go talk to the maintenance manager. With your background of welding and wrenching, there's no reason why they shouldn't give you a shot as a maintenance tech. Manufacturing is one industry that is super easy to climb the corporate ladder in, all it takes is time.

Damn, it's been the complete opposite here.

All the students are young, some fresh out of high-school even.

All except one guy that graduated already as he used to be in the Army and now he's on the pipeline welding out in Tennessee or Arkansas...wherever he moved to.

I do have to give it to @Running Board Man though

My wife tells me it's an issue in school, and that teachers really need to adapt to the way the younger generation is now.

They're not as inquisitive as they used to be. Told her it's funny that she says that cause I see that with the students in my welding class.

They more often come to me for 'advice' or 'tips' or have me check their work, but my wife says it's because I explain things easily and make myself approachable.

My instructor on the other hand, he's old school and I learn a lot from him, but I can see how it's harder for the younger generation to get what he's trying to teach.

With that said though, if James just settles on one thing and really applies himself (with all the knowledge he's acquired) he'll definitely stand out amongst his peers.
