Last Friday and Saturday, after a wash with the All Pro Off Road bed stiffeners and front IFS aluminum (black powder coated) skid plate additions. More coverage and about the same weight as the removed stock steel plate and braces... This morning, the 2x6 (#2) Douglas fir bed inserts for the cargo/camp bed platform are dry. ($16.72 plus tax for a 2x6x10'! Cut at 57" on the tailgate to fit in the bed for the trip home, and a passerby stopped to hold it up at the end of the cut, so no splintered off end!). Had a pint in the quart can of MInwax one-step stain and polyurethane from our hazardous waste disposal facility's giveaway shelves. and the pecan stain looks decent. 6 more school days!

 

Bilstein 5100 with OME 885x in front and Bilstein 5100 with Icon 3 leaf aal in the rear. Stock tires 265/70/16 at the moment. I’ll be running 265/75/16 with FJ Trail Team wheels next week or so.

 

First and last time on the salt

 

That’s awesome! Out of curiosity…why the last time?

 

Totally caked the underneath of my truck with salt and with the reputation that the taco has with rust... the whole salt scene just makes me really nervous... jees, it was a LOT worse than I ever thought it would have been, maybe cuz the salt was damp or something? Not sure, just dont like it.

 

That makes sense! I figured that’s what it was and I definitely get it.

 

You better wash that undercarriage THOROUGHLY as soon as possible. I took my old Mazda Tribute out there in 2019, and while it was an awesome experience, it did lead to some rust despite trying my best in getting all the salt off. Definitely never taking the taco out there. The salt cakes up like wet snow.

On the plus side, it acts like an exfoliating body scrub and left my vehicle's underside sparkling clean after I washed it off.

 

Reposting mine now that the build is 90% done. I know nothing like this is ever truly done, but I'm very happy with where we're at now.

June 28, 2022 Bitterroot NF and the view up the Bitterroot River valley. First time I'd been up this road since 1973. Obvious why I didn't remember this road from that time when Dad drove. Few turnouts, and the (rare) grader operator was as surprised as I was to meet near the end of this sand and granite road, perched on steep slopes.
