Pretty awesome, since the photo, I have added the 20lb Blackstone propane adaptor hose. I use this at least 2-3 times a week at home on my Mountain Hatch tailgate and cook right off the truck.

I have not. Don't know if it would get as hot as you would like.

I went this route vs a standard Coleman grill because I thought is more versatile the a typical grill.

I use a jet boil for nothing more than that, boiling. I use a coleman type 2 burner stove if I'm solo, and a big old discada for more than myself.

Good guidelines here that may help as I start out with a Dutch oven.

We had monsoon weather here in Southern California yesterday, so I had to get my dinner cooked quickly in between down-pours. Hot Italian roast beef sandwich that I clearly didn't make enough of. Crazy thunder and lightening, with rain and hail made for a spectacular view from my tent.20220622_190928.jpg 20220622_190826.jpg 20220622_191203.jpg20220622_202824.jpg

Thanks! It is the Reddy brand from Petco. Thinsulate fill and super warm. It has held up pretty well considering my dog. It is just starting to show some wear after a year.

Laganophake, Roman lentil & red wine stew. Always the first night meal. Make at home, freeze in a tupperware the size of my pot, that way it's part of the ice in my cooler. It's pre-made, so doesn't matter if you get to camp late.

Breakfast the next morning at State Line CG AZ/UT. My daughter wanted something IG-able, so a bag of frozen multi-color potatoes, quarter of a bag of Trader Joe's Cruciferous Crunch, my Vindaloo curry mix and scrambled eggs.

Wow. I gotta' evolve my camp breakfast. Which is usually just a mug of coffee, a can of spicy hot V8 juice and a boiled egg. Luxury is a link of boudin, smoked overnight in a dutch oven sat next to a red oak fire.

Food is an important part of my camping because I’ve got a big family, and I need to make sure everyone is well fed and has the power to climb another mountain.
My main dishes are campfire pies with different fillings: from meat to apple and cherry. Often I make hobo pies, and my favorite recipe is:
    2 slices of white bread
    1 tablespoon butter
3 tablespoons apple pie filling (jam)
The pie cooks for about 5 minutes, and the whole cooking time is about 7 minutes. That’s why I like my camping cоoking gear – it helps me cook a lot and fast, so everyone has enough.

Crappie in Spring crappie camp. Easy limits off brush piles placed in Sam Rayburn as they move in to spawn, then back out to the brush piles to recuperate. We catch a year's worth of freezer meat in 4-5 trips, vacuum packing them right in camp. Easy limits of 25/person in an hour or two, before they move out of the back creeks and into the main lake for the summer. There is no chance that the resource can be over-fished. This is 110,000-acre Big Sam. Number one bass fishery and number two crappie fishery in the world. We've been hammering them since the 60's, and Rayburn is only getting better. By catching so many we are doing the lake a favor: Crappie are a pestilence. Unless you beat them back by catching massive amounts of crappie they will quickly over-multiply and unbalance the lake fishery to the detriment of the other species of fish. Catch all you want. God will make more. Once we are stocked up we give them away to friends and the needy. (You'd be surprised the number of "friends" who have the audacity to ask if the fish are cleaned, and decline to accept free fish unless I have cleaned them. That ain't happenin'. Lazy fucks. The needy never refuse. They are always grateful.)

Crappie taste awesome, but they taste even better if you don't filet them. Cook them whole.

    Many & varied
I prep as much as possible beforehand and only pack as much as I need for each meal. This means chopping, wrapping, and marinating all happen ahead of time to prep enough, so there are no leftovers to store.

I picked up this used Coleman camping kitchen from a TW member a couple of years back for $60, and it's been tremendously helpful for food prep & cleanup.

I have a basic Coleman stove I paid $25 for years ago. I also use a pack flat firepit with a grill grate designed by another TW user:

While I love a good hamburger on a fat bun, I try to change things up and cook more hearty meals with lots of flavors. This means sauteeing up peppers & onions to top off meat & other veggies. A nice little dinner roll adds to the "complete meal" part. One of my go-to easy-to-prep meals is this dish:

    Needs:
    • Boneless skinless chicken thighs marinated overnight in Italian dressing
    • Pre-cooked & chilled pasta salad with diced onions, red & green bell peppers, & cucumber
    • Grilled/sauteed green veggie (typically broccoli marinated in a little soy sauce & sesame oil)
    • Kings Hawaiian dinner rolls
I throw the chicken on the grill, drop the pepper & onions on my cooktop with broccoli, and brown the rolls on the side. It's a nice combination of hot & cold with bold flavors at the end of a long day. It's cheap, easy, and tasty!
