They can, but if you rightly tell them why they failed, a warranty claim would be denied. This would fall on the shop that did the work, whether they fix it or pay a dealer to.

Discount won't pay Toyota to fix the sensors, they will just do it themselves. Toyota will charge double what Discount will. If Discount dicked up the sensors when swapping wheels, they will cover the replacements.

No. This is the deal. There are two separate functionalities in this TPMS sensor system. One is read the pressure in the tire and two is auto-locate. If the pressure sensing portion is all working your TPMS light will function as normal and illuminate with low pressure (and will illuminate with a pressure reading fault). If locate function is working you will get pressures displayed at each corner on your instrument panel. If the locate function is not working then on a reset the new locations aren't determined and no information is displayed on the instrument panel. However, the idiot light and pressure sensing functions can continue to work. The locate function only ever runs when you reset the system so it won't show up as failed until that action is taken.

This is common and most often comes from a damaged sensor during mounting and dismounting tires that renders the locate function inoperable. You have 2 options. Option 1 is dismount the tires again, find the broken sensor/s, and replace. Option 2 is to manually program the locations of each sensor using Techstream and DO NOT use the reset function again or the locations will be lost.

    Good stuff!

A small addition. The Carista app can also program Sensors, if the IDs are known. It cannot scan for the IDs like a handheld tool can.

Take it to another competent tire service center.
    Get your problem solved.

Discount damaged my sensors when I swapped wheels and tires. They replaced all the damaged sensors, still TPMS light no PSI readings. Discount said it was because I didn't have a spare installed with a sensor. Ordered a full spare and new sensor. TPMS light still on, not PSI readings, Discount has no clue why or how to fix it. I either have another bad sensor, or Discount is completely incompetent.

Discount Tire is incompetent. The 3rd gen TPMS system will NOT work with a 5th sensor. If your light is on there *is* a problem and your sensors are either not compatible or not properly programmed into the truck's system.

He said it's not broken BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL STILL READING PRESSURES LIKE THEY SHOULD. The fact they won't auto-locate means that is the only problem. Again, you can ask him to program in locations and you should be okay until one fully fails. You may need to set all tires to different pressures to figure out which sensor ID is in which tire.

    Friend ar Toyota said “
Damaged sensors typically don’t read at all.

16+ Tacoma sensors are auto locate capable. That’s how they know which tire location is which.

That wasn't a reply to you it was a reply to the guy with the light on.

It has been documented that sensor bodies get broken off and roll around inside the tire. I consider this "broken". However, in this state they still have a battery, still read pressure, but won't auto-locate. That's why.

So to trouble shoot this? Hit the reset button inside?

Yes. The TPMSs are attached to each valve stem. The antenna unit is in the left C pillar.

Wait, so everyone running a full spare without a sensor if they change a flat, will not have tpms capability until they get the orginal tire replaced?

If I hit the reset button, that’s how I’m able to trouble shoot and see if it looses the location after they’ve manually done it, correct?

Correct. If you install a tire without a sensor in a 4 sensor system the light will remain on until the With the sensor is back up to pressure and in range of the vehicle. The only way to know your tire pressure until then will be with one of those antique pressure stick things.
