Please! Need Help with a scam

Yeah, and the other 1/10th is the title. Unfortunately that is an important piece.

 

Now I'm just a simple dude that didn't go to no fancy law school, but I'd say that for objects requiring registration its the possessor of the title that gets to claim that 9/10ths advantage.

 

Its weird how it works, but apparently, whoever has ownership of the title can send other people to come take it back. And those other people don't care about sob stories (sorry OP- you deserve for someone to listen to your story, but it won't be the repo men)

edit, lawyers would listen. If after 3 years, you got a lawyer, and they didn't crack the case, you need a better one. You had the guys full name and address; you could've posted that here on day 1 and TW would've found him by day 3, guaranteed (I'm not encouraging you to do that; just making the point that finding the guy isn't a 3 year investigation). If the FBI comes back around year 5 and you were the point man that began the bringing down of a mega crazy world wide operation, I'll take everything back and pat you on the back for waiting it out.

 

Ohhh, about that. See the thing is, I bought it from the co-signer, except it wasn't the real title; it was only a photocopy, and the bank technically owns it. I guess I never really got around to asking the actual owner about the whole ordeal, I only chased the co-signer across state lines and gave up...

 

OP has squatters rights?

After reading a total of 2 posts I have the answers.

1. take it to DMV and request hey have an inspector look at it to ensure it is not a vin swap issue and also have a vin history run thru NCIB.

2. List it here for sale and see if someone is willing to buy it with a photocopy only of the title.

3. Part it out and sell them slowly here being sure to remove any trace of vin #.

Why would you not try to get a bonded title when the detectives told you that was basically your only option and would give your a clear vin report?

yes! In High School he was a good kid, good grades, and a funny guy. I know he had a kid with a high school friend too. They lived together living a good life. All of a sudden, they stopped posting fam pics and months later his babies momma was with another guy. Don’t really know what happened.

 

OP hasn’t interacted because he’s in jail after getting caught up for parting it out.

 

I don't think the story is made up. I think its just missing details. Like what on earth is the OP hiding that he hasn't been able to solve this thing? Hopefully I just missed it somewhere, in the 18 pages of head scratching, but did ANYONE notice he "bought" it from the co-signer? And absolutely zero mention of pursuing the actual owner of the truck? He also never disclosed his cash price, which leads me to believe it was a stupid low amount, through the cosigner, knowing he might've been involving himself in something that was probably sketchy, but seemed to favor him incredibly so didn't care.

 

When I bought this truck in my avatar, it was in another state, with a loan through Toyota motor credit. After many calls and emails with owner and TMC, I drove 10 hours and visually inspected the truck. Once we made the deal at the drive in window of my bank, that had a branch in his state, and he paid off his loan with TMC, TMC was to send me the clear title. We notarized our agreement and I drove away with the old tags from my previous Tacoma ( same color). That was the only hiccup, that I couldnt get a temp tag without the original title, that was in transit. So I drove home with fake tags and my transferred insurance coverage a notarized sales agreement and no actual title. I only had a minor sleepless night, wondering if TMC screwed up and sent him the title instead, of me, could things go south. Guy was a well off, straight forward 30 something, so I dont think he would try to screw me if he got the title by accident. I saw no other way to get this deal done.

He just updated 4 days ago...page 13, post #260. Not sure what people want after 3 years of this? Reading this thread in its entirety is like a TW rite of passage!

 

It feels like OP is avoiding doing the one thing that would give him answers for some reason or other. Whether that be he has trouble with the law himself, his buddy is the one who walked with the money, or he was in on the thing from the get go and then realized he could do time. Or maybe he's just scared to pony up for his misjudgment and is in denial. Some lessons are expensive. I got scammed on a car once. Luckily it was a $1500 mistake not a 25k+ mistake. Bought a car that looked good and ran, come to find out it had a hack job engine repair and they left some nice shiny metal objects in the intake.

 

Find a mechanic who will put a mechanics lean on it to recover his cost of work or storage. He can then get a new title in a new name regardless of the bank's lien.

 

Repairs weren't ordered or authorized by the vehicle owner. Pretty sure they'd see through that scam pretty quickly.
