Hey guys I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a new build. I plan on using it for Solidworks and e-sports.

Mobo: Asus TUF gaming x570 plus wifi
CPU: Amd 5600x (with stock cooler)
    Memory: 16gb of dd4 2400 (I have already)
Storage: 2TB samsung 860 evo SSD (from old PC)
Storage: 1TB WD HDD (from old PC)
    GPU: Gigabyte GTX1650 GDDR6 4GB (I already have)
    CASE: Corsair 4000D airflow
PSU: EVGA 750 semi modular (from old PC)

Total for the new parts I'm looking at around 550 with tax

I plan on upgrading the cooler, memory, GPU, and getting a high capacity m.2 drive down the road just want get this going.

My current PC is a tired AF AMD FX8150 based system and it's really starting to show it's age lol

Do you guys have any suggestions?

    Yeah.
Same board, CPU, and case that I used for my older daughter's PC. Love the 4000D case. It's a solid build. She's still running a 1080 and is happy with it.

Nope, I think you'll be good to go. You'll definitely want 3200Mhz - 3600Mhz DDR4 when you upgrade the memory to take advantage of Ryzen's infinity clock. If you have a MicroCenter nearby, they currently have the Ryzen 5600 on sale for crazy cheap: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/v93vpm/cpu_amd_ryzen_5_5600_processor_with_wraith/

    Yeah I plan on getting a 32gb 16x2 3600mhz kit when I upgrade. Ultimately I want to run 64gb

Damn that's a steal!!!!!!! Wish I was closer :annoyed:

As long as you're looking for a 13" model, take a look at these guys. They build a fully user servicable laptop which is a truly unique idea. They are even promising updated CPUs/MBs over time that you can upgrade to without tossing the rest in the trash.

Disclaimer: I own one and like it. It's a solid machine.

I was in a training class a couple weeks back and one of the people there had one. Its pretty nice! I like how you can swap parts to customize it.

For standard build laptops, i have always had good luck with acer. Fairly cheap, decent build quality, and easy to upgrade the hdd and ram. At least on the 2 i have experience with they were. And those were about 10 years ago. No idea how they are now, no need for a laptop beyond what work throws at me for remote working.

    Just tossing this out here..
I was able to purchase a new GPU (3090) for my rig. So I'll be looking to sell my 3070. It's an Asus ROG Strix OC 3070 (which I never did OC). I've had it in my system for about 18 months - and it's worked great. Other than just not having enough VRam (and total horsepower) for my particular software (AutoDesk Revit with Enscape addon).
I have no idea if there's much of a demand for these anymore, with supplies seeming to be FINALLY catching up. And I'm betting the shipping to a further destination might not make it worth it. But maybe someone (somewhat) local to me might be interested. I live in central Alberta - about half way between Edmonton and Calgary.
This card retails for just north of 900 bucks Canadian - plus tax. So if you're reasonably close - and in the market for one - this could be an option..

My 3090 showed up today. Got it all installed (very stressful)...
This thing is a MONSTER!!! What a significant upgrade, over my 3070!
I always felt like my system (10th Gen) was like a Ferrari, with a 300 pound anchor dragging behind it. Well...this 3090 definitely cut the chain on that 'anchor'. My Revit - with Enscape addon - was smooth as butter - on the highest graphics settings. And that was with AutoCad open in the background (with my largest file open) - Chrome open (with about 11 or 12 tabs open) - and some monitoring software running. This thing didn't even flinch!

Definitely upped the heat generating in my case. I've never really played with my case fan speeds before. But I'll need to figure out how to do that. I believe that's a Bios setting??

Only if you have your case fans plugged into your MOBO. Some case fans pull from MOLEX or SATA power, but I guess those are becoming old school now. Also you'll ideally need 4-pin PWM fans, although some Motherboards can support 3-pin fans at variable speeds.

If your fans are plugged into the MOBO, then yes they should be controllable through the BIOS. On my PC I have mine set up where their RPM is tied to CPU temperature, so basically if my CPU is above 70C my case fans ramp up to around 85-90% speed.

I can neither confirm nor deny that some of my case fans are, to this day, running on Molex. :spy:

Lol my server was all molex connected fans till like six months ago (the CPU was a four pin only from upgrading it).

Got a good 11 years out of those fans running 24/7 and they were still going strong

Anybody looking to offload a 7th gen i7 or an 8th gen i5-i7 for cheap? Its gotta be a non-k and non-f variant. Building a cheap plex server for my mom, and need the low tdp and onboard gpu for quicksync. System is currently running a 7th gen i3, and was looking to bump it up a little while upgrading ram and setting up small raid enclosure to store the movies.

Just finished up this hot potato. Actually it runs quite cool. I used a totally defunct, no chance of restoration, Silvertone Record player. It came out better than I could have imagined. Just have to RMA the CPU cooler AIO because corsair software blows and bricked the rgb with the first update lol.

The dial is full rgb but I like it looking like and old school vac tube instead of rainbow.

Edit: here's the build process for anyone interested https://youtu.be/qeTMmpBNe4E

I also have an asus tuf x570 plus wifi for sale. It was an RMA that I never installed because I ended up going with an MSI board after my last asus mobo crapped out. Open to all reasonable offers.

Well it finally happened. After 7 long years gaming, running multiple VMs for my home lab and standard home use, my personal rig finally bit the bullet. An Intel i7 5th gen Socket 2011 v3. Finally got an excuse to upgrade so I’m jumping into 12th Gen. Now to just wait impatiently for Newegg. As a long term IT guy, you’d think I’d upgrade more often but that takes money that is better sorted to Family, Woodworking, Guns/Hunting, and Cars (in that order).

    Ordered
    CPU: Intel Core i7-12700 KF
    Cooler: Corsair H115i Elite
Mobo: ASUS TUF Gaming Z690-Plus D4
Mem: 32 GB Corsair Dominator 3600 CAS 16
GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3070ti
Boot: WD Black 500GB PCI-E Gen 4 NVMe SSD

    Reusing
    Case: Corsair 4000X
    PSU: Corsair RM850x
Game: Samsung QVC 2TB Sata drive
VM disks: WB Blue 256GB PCI-E Gen 3 NVMe SSD

I love the direction prices are going. $669 for a red devil 6800xt and even down to $469 if you sign up for the Amazon credit card. Seems like motherboards are what’s lacking right now. I’m mentally piecing mine together for the future. The Fractal Torrent case is 100% what I’ll be getting for my next build though.

Definitely some good prices. Also definitely plenty of extra stock that finally hit all at once GPU wise. CPU's too to some extent. Helps that next-gen stuff is "supposed" to be coming out soon too

I’ve been seeing some reports that Nvidia 4000 series has been postponed, but who knows. Everything is rumor at this point
