Just like the title says, it’s spark plug replacement time. just wondering if anyone has installed Denso Iridium or any other brand plugs in their 2nd Gen Tacoma’s. I know Iridium cost more but besides the longer life do you guys think there’s a benefit or stick with the oem plugs Toyota installed.

I’d say all the 2.7 trucks are running Iridium.
Some guys have run the Iridium in the 4.0.
Most that do don’t have problems, but some (very few) guys do.

As for OE Copper Core, let’s just say there are some guys that have run them over 100K.
    Should you? No.
But I think that tells you how good the OE plugs are.

Longer life is the only benefit of iridium plugs (which is a good enough reason - so you don't have to wrench on your truck as often)

Yea I have the 4.0, I saw that the 2.7 have them installed from the factory. That’s why I’m questioning if I should make the change.

    My truck is a 4.0
    I didn’t change mine at 30k, I changed them at 50k.
I used Copper Core OE plugs.

I am not saying how long I’ve driven on the set that’s in there now.
But if I had to guess, it’s been longer than 50k :crapstorm:

I ran NGK iridium IX (lower grade iridiums) plugs in my truck for about the last 5 years, probably about 60k miles with zero issues. Within the last month I could tell they were getting worn out, could feel a bit of a "miss" at idle and MPG had gone down noticeably so I changed plugs and went with NGK Ruthenium.

My gaps were between .055 and .080, factory is .044.

I've had no issues with the Ruth's so far and did get some MPG back and the butt dyno says a little more power, they're supposed to be better performance than the Iridium IX's but cheaper than the higher end Iridiums.

Definitely running smoother now than the old iridiums but can't make a comparison new to new given the time passed.

Iridium fan boy here. I’m on my second set of Iridium plugs. Next set due at about 250K. If a reputable manufacturer shows Iridium plugs for your car in their application guide, you got choices. They wouldn't list them if their engineers hadn't tested them to run in the V6’s. I’ve seen no performance gains, or losses. Only that they will last to about 100K before needing replacing. I have the Denso Long Life.

Your ignition system is made for copper plugs. Copper has less resistance. You run the risk of occasional misfires with iridium or platinum. Engines with iridium plugs will have more voltage to jump the gap.

Don't have any firsthand experience with toyota but I've seen incorrect plugs cause issues in other manufacturers. Misfires, stalling, modules dropping off network..
