It's slow engine speed cylinder deactivation for the purposes of RPM and temperature control. A lot of the time it's used in the pits to cool engines while they're in line or staging

I think it sounds bad tbh, but that's irrelevant... judging by the sound and the name, it works by skipping an ignition cycle?

 

It'll skip whatever it needs to to keep within the guidelines you set, remember it's maintaining idle by cutting since the throttle is open. You set an idle RPM, cut method, and hysteresis and it does the rest.

Also that R32 sounds exactly like my 135i did, I guess I already had a hog ass cam haha. Helped that it had variable lift and could have any cam profile it wanted.

Yours sounds to me like the R32 at normal idle. Were you running a rotational idle in that video?

No it wasn't running rotational idle, on a cold start it just goes from low lift medium overlap to high lift little overlap over the course of a couple minutes and the sound changes quite a bit. I made the comment because that R32 has a really aggressive cam put in.

 

Deactivate injection on 1 and 4? I feel like past 2000rpm you wouldn't even feel it. The only other question is how do you measure accurate AFRs since it'd just be pumping air in those 2 cylinders...guess I'd have to move the sensor up directly to the manifold of an always active cylinder

 

@Taco critter do you by chance know the frame height of your average 1st gen on 33” tires?

Fun fact:

Its incredibly hard to get a sheet of OSB with a 5 month old blue heeler in tow.


Started fixing a soft spot in the floor. Rotten subfloor cut out and replaced with OSB. Also moving an air vent to this spot from in front of where my new door will be going.



Dunno why people rave about LVP. Seems like sneezing on it during install causes it to crack. Got frustrated with trying to reinstall it last night, had to stop before I made it worse. Gonna try again this evening.

 

The people who rave about LVP are raving about how the finished surface holds up, the installers aren't as impressed haha.

 

Yeah and doing a repair section is probably the worst thing to have to do with it. If money wasnt an issue Id rip it all out of the kitchen and do tile.

 

I like tile in a kitchen, lots of that in AZ that looked pretty good for relatively cheap. I have vinyl in my kitchen right now and I like it, it mimics vinyl plank. Very durable surface though and cleans well.
