Trust me. He’s not getting rich with his XLE portfolio. His $100,000 made a whopping $4,000 over the past 10 years. He didn’t even make enough to cover the cost of a 20,000 OIC.

Are you saying we’re being defensive? I’m not, they may be. I’m never defensive, not ever!

Why wouldn't they? They still use oil and make the purchase, do they not? The information is just as relevant. Only difference is who is pulling the drain plug.

Stats showing no problems with 10k intervals doesn't provide ANY context in the argument that "10k intervals are too long"?? That's some cope.

I can't make that argument because I never did. I do not argue that you should not do 5k oil changes. I have never stated that. Shit, I posted that I change when the light comes on, which I believe is 5k anyway. I also don't care if I go over 5k.

The information posted is countering the often made argument that 10k OCIs are *bad*. That is the argument being made and supported with actual data in the sourced link.
I even specifically contextualized I was referencing "10k bad" arguments. NOTHING about 5k.

Chill out, nobody is attacking you or even really cares if you change every 10 miles.

    Lol logic.
Listen, if 10K results are normal, what do you expect the 5K results to be? More normal-er?

The statement i made is if your doing 5k oil changes your spending twice as much as if doing 10k changes....it has nothing to do the quality of the oil after those intervals, just your wallet. I can't make it any clearer.

Ok, not bad, but not good and we are cheap and should have bought a used econocar. Got it, not sure what the fuck it means, but I got it.

Lol yeah everyone always want the thing they choose to do to be the right thing and prove the other opinion wrong. I mean everyone already knows 5k is the correct answer but they still fight. It’s pretty funny.

    Hilarious!

I'm in the 5K oil change or somewhere thereabouts (+/- 1K miles) maintenance.

I remember being told to look at the color of the oil on the dipstick. Black is time to change.

Heck, I had my 15K ToyotaCare yesterday and have 12,264 miles. I found a Dealership that has great rapport with me and understands my concerns.

Last oil change was Feb 14, 2022 at 8301 miles for 10K visit.

Before that, Sep 30, 2021 at 4693 miles for 5K visit.

Air Cabin Filter will get changed on the 4th/20K mile ToyotaCare visit on Dec 13, 2022.

All i can say if 5k oil changes for normal use makes those feel all warm and fuzzy, keep it up. I'll just stick to the manufactures recommendations. I trust their engineers to know.

    Trust the engineers?
They are the ones who set the 5-10K intervals per "use of vehicle". Pretty sure MOST understand what the read,.... again most.

Fact is the 10K crowd has been doing it since day one....... and there is no going back ,... or admitting "use of vehicle" is being followed as engineered.
What a joke,... don't come here asking for forgiveness or a pat on the head telling you its ok to neglect your engine because we all do,,,,,,
Famous words to this day from the Kool-aid crowd who does not know better,..... "It will be alright trust me, I do it too"

So the never-ending oil thread,...... Everyone's opinion is right because they are doing as told from the first mile.
You do 10K good for you. Honestly.
    Hope it works out.

Do yourself a favor, think for yourself.
Because Trust-Buddy online is not going to be paying for your new engine.

But ask yourself this, if you drain your oil at 5000 miles, is it ok to use it again?
Sure, Trust-Buddy says,.. I save mine till next time my wife's car is due. o_O:fingerscrossed:

I have not been on this board for as long as most...

Much, if not all of what you're saying seems to be what's going on about this topic.

A fellow co-worker has the same mentality and no matter how many times I mention "how we perform tasks differently", he seems to take it as a continuum for his own pleasure to debate.

It may be a self-gratification aspect of their personality...who knows?

BUT, the behavior can change...they first have to realize their action's cause/effect and accept the fact they are the ones who should consider adjusting their behavior.

It's like talking to a brick wall...or a fence post if no change is made.

Is there a dead horse lying around here...somewhere? lol

I've done 15k mile/1 year oil changes in the past with my gen1 tundra that had the same oil capacity using mobil 1. That truck was fine after nearly 300k miles, and still running strong with its new owner today. The tacoma runs with less rpm, and easier on the engine with its 2 overdrive gears. The way i figure it, 10k mile oil changes is more than good enough. Roads are mostly all asphalt here so the quality of the oil is good for longer periods.
