Pennsylvania in the late 50s and '60s.
It was mostly mixed family farming back then.
Family farms did some of everything.
Dairy, chickens, hogs, apple orchards, grain, corn, big gardens, a few beef cattle, etc.

Today, small family farms surviving in this area are mostly Mennonites.
It's one reason why I like all the Mennonites I know.

Other farmers remaining have specialized to some degree.
It's more of a job and they go to grocery stores like everybody else.

 

Speaking of tax dollars...

I'm still waiting on Maryland to refund some of the 7% real estate tax they laid on me when I sold the rental condo.
Like I'm a high roller or something.
(I had a condo in Hagerstown that I remodeled and rented out for a few years).

I asked the gal from the tax office about it the other day (everybody knows everybody in small towns).
She told me that Maryland will probably hold onto my money until November.

On the other hand we were a couple days late paying sales and use tax last month (forgot) and they sent us a fine of $161

Reminds me of Tim Wilson talking about a bounced check, he said he bounced a $3 check and the bank charged him $30 for a bounced check. He said if I ain't got 3, I dang sure ain't got 33

Nah, volunteer at the fire department. All our fire houses are volunteer around here.

I'm assuming there was a spill of some sort. Penndot has been going through in their dump trucks. Guess I gotta go the back way to work if they don't clean it up in an hour

An accident of some sorts. Tow truck came through the road block with a smashed up car on the back. Some big wreckers went through so I'm guessing a semi is involved. Not surprised, that's a dangerous place to be turning on. I go that way every day to go to work. Well, not today, gotta detour...
