I've said this a couple times....but it's worth repeating. It's not just that the Rivian has ridiculous acceleration.....but does so at close to an 8000 pound curb weight with a couple of people in it. To get that much mass moving that quickly is just mind boggling

“Close to 8000 pounds” is a significant amount of rounding. It’s curb weight is 7148 pound. Two people weighing 852 pounds too.

    1) it's a thiick girl because batteries are heavy.
    2) 'smokestack' pollution depends on your local grid - here in the pacific northwest it's almost all hydro.
    3) R1T gets shitty MPGes. (mid 60s), my R4P gets 96 and the Prius Prime gets 133 (as does the Kona, Teslas, etc)

I almost lost a friend over this lamp because he wouldn’t let me store it in his garage in a pinch and threw a hissy fit. Turns out he was having a rough time with his childhood memories. Anyway, we had a talk and are better.

You are the person in 1920 saying "Gas? Where am I going to get gas? I can feed my horse anywhere. All I need is some hay." Yes, there are more gas stations than charging stations. But guess what, the world changes as it moves forward. Gas/charging stations will change also.

7148# + two 250# guys is close to 7700#. That's "That's pretty close to 8k" to me. But I'm not here to argue semantics. Subjective definitions aside.... that's a lot of mass to bang out a 0-60 in 3 seconds

I've been saying this for a while. Technology doesn't evolve over night and things are rarely at the point where people would like them when they're new. Personally, if money was no object, I'd probably take the Rivian over my Tacoma when the kinks get worked out. I love my Tacoma so that says a lot. Plus, it's nice that Rivian didn't go with one of those vertical Tesla-style tablet center displays.

I think the Rivian is a better truck than the Tacoma. What I like best is the frunk and the storage tunnel behind the back seat. That secure and dry storage would be great while still having an open bed for large items. The problem with the Rivian is the cost. I did the cost of ownership math a while back and it would take 17 years to break even over buying a new TRD Tacoma. It just doesn’t make sense financially. If they can get the cost down to within $10K of a similar sized ICE vehicle I would buy one immediately even though the headlights remind of the hungry hungry hippos game. I would be fine with the range. I rarely ever drive more than 150 miles a day. Any far trips I’m flying and renting a car.

Even if we could travel at the speed of light, you'd be dead before reaching our nearest neighboring star system. There are literally Billions of Galaxies out there in the Universe. But the distance between us and them is really huge, and I sometimes wonder if this was designed that way on purpose. Jupiter is 444 million miles from Earth, and that's nothing compared to the distance from Proxima Centauri our closets star. It's 4.24 light years away.
