thanks now I have a headache

 

not much, mostly trying to spend time with the dogs and go biking at least once a week but mostly just chilling. The last few years kicked my ass and I needed to slow down lol

Always good to take a break every once in a while!

Nothing much, trying to get motivation to complete either of the fine Japanese shitboxes in the driveway.

The biggest regret of my life is not buying the Southwest 737-300 winglet when I had the chance. It was so cool.

 

I watched a YouTube vid awhile back about how when the US retired the SR71 they kept almost 200,000 sq ft of warehouse storage space filled with spare parts for it for over a decade, out in the desert. Then they decided to destroy it all. The guy giving the presentation was in charge of organizing the destruction of all of it.

Imagine having had access to that shit

I can't really blame them, they don't want it falling into the wrong hands so it could be reverse-engineered.

 

It was less about that I think and more about the cost of housing all that equipment that was basically becoming obsolete. I mean the SR71 itself and spy planes in general were made obsolete by satellites anyway.

NASA used it for a short while which is the only reason they kept the spare parts around for that long I think

haha yeah I've seen that one. Such a crazy feat of engineering especially when you consider that it was designed and built without any aid from computers.

Also the fact that the CIA got all the titanium to build the SR71s and prototypes by creating dummy corporations all over the world to buy it from Russia, so that we could build the plane needed to spy on them during the Cold War lol.
