    just speaking hypothetically...
it could be, EV costs level off and gas keeps going up

on a side note... one thing that is not mentioned in this thread either is the federal ev tax credit being given out.

7,500 bucks when you buy a rivian at the moment

A 6 year loan is pretty standard on new cars these days. Why not spread the cost out for another year and have lower monthly payments?

    Man that’s a rabbit hole.

Personal opinion is that debt increases risk and is more expensive long term so I don’t do loans.

Impressive. Stock tires on a Rivian are 34s (275/65R20).

Who knows what that credit turns into when you file your taxes? Might save $100.
You also need to buy a charger and have it installed.
Hopefully Toyota or someone else comes out with a cheaper midsize truck EV. I’d take an EV Santa Cruz too.

You don’t do loans? I guess I’m one of the peasants that doesn’t have 50K in cash laying around to buy a truck with.

I did earlier in my life but honestly I adjusted based on my income. I bought older cheaper cars while my friends bought new ones.

A lot of people use their car as a status symbol for wealth. The more money I make and the older I get, the more bored I get with newer cars and I find myself purchasing older cheaper cars again.

The key is credit. How many people have a car payment that when the loan is paid off, continue to put that payment into savings? Not many, most use it to spend on other items so they are always borrowing for a car. OR You just get ahead of it and set aside a "payment" into savings so when you go to purchase a car 5 years form now, its all cash and it's grown.

I just finance cars and trucks. I buy them new and keep them 7-10 years. Dealers hate cash. I usually use a credit union. I think Westerra in Colorado and Patelco in California.

Yup. The interest rates are or at least were low enough that the extra year of financing doesn’t cost much. No need to tie up your own money.

That assumes you have it to begin with, if you can't pay cash then you don't have money, you have "income." some of the risk I mentioned is when that income is no longer coming in.

Loans are how this country runs. Can you buy a home in cash? How about pay for college? No one has that kind of money unless you’re a trust fund baby or won the lotto.

That's a fallacy. The economy runs on transactions. Debt/credit can temporarily increase transactions but it's not dependent on them.

Or work your ass off. The house I grew up in my dad built…we also had our own construction business. We worked a shit ton, paid cash for most everything, wasn’t the newest or the greatest, but it was paid for.

Last car I bought, interest rate was 1.99%. Paying cash or a down payment would have been pretty dumb.

Likewise, my Dad built the house I grew up in as well, all himself, literally did everything and I helped where I could. He didn't have a business so he worked weekends and in the evenings, everyday every weekend, no breaks.
