I will stick with facts not interpretations of what people read.
I am not interested in people's opinions when I have solid recommendations.

No chill required, have a great day!

Some shops thinking "this is the right stuff" may have destroyed this man's transmission.

NEVER downshift into first. There is no reason to do it unless you are rock/trail crawling.

Well, new gear oil and now new gear noise.
    "sounds like something"

OP seems to have been driving this way before and now has a noise,
    caused by bad operation? Maybe.
However the oil change now the noise brings concern in a short time.

Dealer changed the oil. Transmission noise was present from day 1.

No new gear oil that I know of. Dealer is bringing in their regional service tech. Plan is to do some more test driving, then drain transmission fluid and see if any metal shavings in there.

So, we'll see whether it's "normal", or if something is wrong with the synchro.

I do feel like any engine or transmission noise thread, always turns into "it's normal, don't worry about it". Ha!

Hmmm... I've been driving manuals since before fully synchronized trannys were common. If your trans did not have a synchronized first gear you would have to "double clutch" to get it to go into 1st while moving. To get it to go into 1st at 20 mph you'd probably have to REDLINE the engine to get the 1st gear to spin up to speed to mesh. You do know what double clutching is right?

In case you're not aware, it's easier to change brakes than it is a clutch. Figure it out then continue to march...

To add the clutch has an accumulator in the hydraulic system,
Its a good thing, and a bad thing if you do not know how it works.

Drive your truck 70 mph and then put the trans in second, don't let the clutch out, you will hear weird noises. Then move on.

    I don't like stickers.
Hey OP! I also have a MT!

    :burnrubber:

I watched your video, and I would like to report that I hear a similar noise under the same conditions when downshifting into first gear.

But…I always assumed it just meant I shouldn’t try to shift into first gear when I was going that fast.

I’m not a mechanic, or a certified Toyota technician. I’m not even a particularly skilled driver of these 3 pedaled machines. But, much like you, I have driven many miles, over many years, in many vehicles. None of those vehicles over the years have liked it when I try to downshift into first too early. Even if I have the clutch pushed in.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you know I hear the same thing in a 2019 with low miles. Please keep us updated if you find anything, and let me know if I should use my warranty to address this before it expires :).

I feel bad for everyone posting this guy's channel, but he's 100% correct. Up to about the 1970's most trucks didn't have synchronizers on the first gear, as it was only needed to start from a stop. Myself driving manual trucks from 70's to the 2020's.

    https://www.youtube.com/embed/a7u0Pd4-HRU

There isn't really anything left to be said. This applies to ALL light duty manual transmission vehicles.

It feels bad if the things you thought were correct for years were actually wrong. You are the only one that can ask yourself, "Why?" and no one here can make the choice for you.
