It is they did my install with Nitro gears which is all they offered at the time. This was about 2 years ago. Gear whine is very real :/

Color_Me_Taco is altitude the shop saying they want to use Yukon? I have heard they are less likely to whine but many people still claim they whine.

from everything i have researched, East Coast Gear recommends yukon, Sibi recommends revolution, Nitro seem to whine the most. Ymmv

They just installed my Yukon 5.29s, keep in mind I do run noisy km3 m/t tires. I hear zero whine so far.

I get it on light load or decel. Especially at 65mph and faster. Mine were noisy from day one and have stayed the same as far as I can tell. So sounds like you should be good!

Doesn’t ECGS only sell and install Nitro though?

Last I looked that I remember at least, all the gear parts they sell for Tacoma are nitro and I assumed they were using the same in the pre assembled diffs they sell.

Have you ever ridden a bicycle, and started pedaling in your lowest gear on flat ground? You know, that feeling when your legs are capable of more, but you are held back from applying power and accelerating due to the low gearing. It’s kinda like that in my mind. I know my truck has the torque to be up to speed faster, but it’s gotta work it’s way through the gears, starting with first. Honestly, with 4.88s my truck would get moving just fine in 2nd gear, if that was even a thing with an auto.

Anyways…….keep in mind these are just my opinions. Unlike “the experts”, I’m not trying to sell you anything. Put 5.72 in or whatever suits your fancy.

They also quoted me $1000 higher than an shop in Lakewood. I'll Male to the drive to.Lakewood and still keep $700 in my pocket after the additional fuel cost to get there

So I’ve been following this thread as I’m considering 4.88 over 5.29 in the distant future and just doing research in the mean time, but I’ve hit an odd bump:
Everyone says 3rd gen ATs have 3.91 stock, but my kick plate sticker has A04A as the axle code which is 3.727? That’s not right is it? Too bashful to start my own thread...

I appreciate the replies, but I’m aware everyone says I’m supposed to have 3.909. That’s why I’m confused as to why my axle code A04A deciphers to 3.727. Are door jamb typos common?

My research...are you the original owner? I wonder if it was swapped out? Idk...

Nah bought it used actually. I suppose it doesn’t really matter that much in the end when I’m deciding between 4.88 and 5.29. Just struck me as really odd.
I appreciate you puzzling over it with me!
