What about them? Tunes are practically undetectable. Depending on the tune you should probably change your oil at smaller intervals, but that's it.

Just went in @2,500. The advisor put a notation I had a removed panel. Installed under dash lighting and removed fuses because of fresh tint install. So wondering about anything else that would appear out of ordinary to them.

To plug a diagnostic tool,Toyota will have to charge you for the work. So you have to put your initials on the paperwork and shell out somewhere between $75-200 for that.

Sure. He couldn't figure out why his tune stumbled on start up and drove in DI mode 95%.

    A few.
Ive had mine tuned twice and my mpgs are the same as beforehand. But I seem to be above average for mpgs either way.

I was concerned about it but "no notes" were indicated or mentioned during the exit walk.

I thought 21's had all the poor mapping worked out of them if not 2020's?

Why did you feel the need?

For me it's hands down the best $250.- I ever spent I do miss the premium at times but not for the cost at the pump.

The tune on my 2021 was acceptable. Not great, just acceptable. Probably about 75% of people driving this truck would just accept it as is, or not even know there was a way to make it better. There was a notable improvement to my truck after the KDMax tune.

I had one of the first 21s to come out and didn’t know most of the issues had worked out. I tried going to KD max but the tuners were always further than I wanted to drive, so I ended up OV. I feel like it was a waste of my 250

I took mine in for it's 5,000 mile checkup. The service manager and I were actually talking about tunes and which ones we were using. He drives a Pro. He told me they don't even bother checking for them.

Everything checks out on TechStream VIN wise I don't think they would even pick up on it.

You hit the nail firmly on the head. Good shot. Late to market is unrecoverable lost opportunity.

You can blame the engineers, they are certainly not perfect. The math, however, is a lot simplier. The longer it takes to put your new development on the market the longer you wait to see a return on your investment. Bean counters rule...

They should. My truck was done at the dealer when new new before taking ownership of it...well actually it was my truck at that point. My buddy had his done at a local toyota dealer and claimed it still drove the same as before. I'm starting to wonder it this reflash actually was done to his truck, or at least got correctly loaded. I can tell you there was a very noticeable difference between his 2019 tacoma and my 2020 in performance, and the way his shifted. Those were the same tsb's to.

No one's perfect, but the engineers imo do a pretty tough job trying to get it right. Our company use to hire on a few new guys straight from college and put them on probation for a few months working on various projects to see what they could do. Only one or two of the brightest group were kept as permanent employees. My blame goes to the bean counters, they have no conception what the engineers do, saving money for the company is their only goal.

I worked for IR for 26 years. One of the best metal cutters around lead by top tier engineers both in R&D as well as product support.

I spent 7 years with IR in their machine room doing die repair work while spending time with a few different engineers on new progressive press dies. Those senior engineers really knew their stuff.

Still not tuned after 3+ years in my 2019, but too curious not to tune at some point. Plan to try OTT 8.0.
