Please update us if ya get an answer on it. Again I know you worked hard on stryker/did a ton of testing and it wasn’t a dig at all- in fact I know people like it and as you know I considered trying it, I just wanted to make my position/involvement clear for potential clients.

I actually heard back from Mat a bit ago, but in regard to the Decode error. Turns out that's due to trying to open or flash a tune that was created/exported in a version of VFTuner that is more up to date than your own.

Haven't heard back yet about this incident.

    Will keep people updated.

    Sounds like bad software engineering.
Mat, put a check in place while loading file that if created/exported in newer VF Tuning software, display error and upgrade message for VF Tuning. Don't allow this to flash the truck and brick it.

He was on the most recent update, I could tell cause I updated today myself from last most recent vfpro (I can’t even say what that was at this point with all the numbers) to most recent (then bought 100 credits) and there was a different looking toolbar/grey on top I didn’t see last week.

How did you end up un-bricking it, @MGMSangTaco ? ECU on bench power and connected to ODBII and reflash to older, good firmware?

Yeah he'd confirmed that he was fully updated too.

Just passing that info along since a few people have been getting it recently.

No I only use the most current software per matt’s request in good faith.

Here’s what i wrote up today after doing it cause I couldn’t find a good actual SOP. Glad I did that cause I’m smoking meats and drinking beers and it would have been more difficult tomorrow. I couldn’t find something clear on the interwebs after doing my own research while my lady was in my ear telling me I’m a nerd and to pay attention to her so here it is written out.

Bench flash procedure/at least what worked for me today
    1. Connect tactrix to laptop BEFORE providing any power to ECU
    2. Align all bench flash ports to ECU and plug in- it’s easy they’re all keyed separately and you can’t miss
    3. Connect loose red wire from harness/IGN and loose black wire with all necessary ground attached to Schumaker jump clamps (if you have a 12v battery that will work too but will need necessary connections) provide constant power between 12v-13.5v)- the noco wasn’t switching from off position to provide power. Tried multiple times and couldn’t get it to register when connecting to the little leads. Perhaps a heavier duty connection at the ends of the loose wires would do the trick but Schumaker made it easy and verified with a voltmeter. Note- the Schumaker is very expensive but came in handy and is specifically used for flashing vehicles
    4. Select stock file of current ECU cal
    5. Gen 2 force flash. Should take right away.
    6. When flash was complete, turn shumaker off to emulate the truck power/ign off
    7. Disconnect and plug ECU back into truck
    8. Voila. Truck should be ready to romp

Happy to help. Sounds like your truck is back up and running thanks to the awesome TW community here.

Also, @dave82at built @MGMSangTaco Bench Flash Harness. So solid group effort here. Lots of good people here. We try to make sure we have a solid network of tuners populated with all the tools for the job.

Sounds like a win to me!

Very first attempt from the bench at Prepare ECM and Force Flash Gen 2 failed, just like it did in the truck. So we restarted vfTuner (not the computer) and did Force Flash gen 2 of the stock 04B82 file, and it worked. Then put the ECU back, then did the standard method of applying a tune from the ODB2 port in the truck, with the Magnuson 04B82 file from Ryan. Everything is up and running, just test drove the truck, it feels like it did before, no issues.

My question is what version of vfTuner is Ryan at Magnuson using? Because he was able to cut me a new file on the new ECU ID 04B82 on Monday. Emailed it and I took it down and copied it over with the rest of the tune packs on the laptop. So, it worked. Let me email him and ask what version they're using.

    [Edit]
"I am on the current version. I would make sure there are not antivirus software’s running while ... saving the file."

As a follow up, I worked with @ktbell444 this morning to use VFTuner 1.6.7.x (most up to date version, and same version Matthew's files were VIN locked with) to VIN lock both a NA 3.5L tune file and a Stryker 3.5L tune file (both 04B82 EROM) using ktbell's VIN. He flashed both tunes to his truck successfully, said they both started right up.

ECU ID matches that of Matthew, and I used the same process for VIN lock/saving prior to distribution that I always have, so I'm not sure why Matthew's ECU bricked. Especially in the manner it did, appearing to have completed flash.

    Will continue to investigate.

I write software for a living... this one is sneaky. If I hadn't taken Ryan's tune down from email on my mac, save to flash drive, boot windows, grab from flash drive... I'd say it was something corrupting the file along the mac to windows file systems or what not, but that doesn't add up.

My truck is a 2020 DCLB Offroad AT w/ Premium package (sunroof, JBL, front camera, etc) - what is yours @ktbell444 ?

2020 Pro, so the B82 TSB applied to both of our vehicles.

My antivirus is on, on my PCs, but I have exceptions built into all my relevant tuning folders and install directories which is pretty common practice for lots of us.
