Looking for Speaker Upgrade Recommendation (Second Gen)

Looking if anyone has any good recommendations for upgrading all the speakers on my 05 double cab taco…

I do have a aftermarket headunit: Sony XAV-5000

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated -

What direction are you going?
-budget?
-amp for them or no?
- 2-way or 3-way?
-adding a sub or no?
-treating doors, or throwing them in there?
-6.5” or 6x9”?

Personally, my vote goes to Morel Tempo line, but I’m biased. When I get paid, that’s what’s going in my doors.

 

I’d say somewhat budget roughly 500 cad..

If you don’t mind explaining what’s the difference between 2-way and 3-way?

Honestly, go to Crutchfield's website and choose the outfit my vehicle option and see what is on sale. Most anything they offer would be a substantial upgrade and I have used them for 30 years and never been disappointed.

 

^^ Exactly where I was going next.

But to explain,
- 2-way is a woofer and tweeter. 3-way is a woofer, smaller Mid-range speaker, and a tweeter. Fabrication would be required.
- 6.5” or 6x9 is the shape of the speaker. If your goal is to replace factory stuff, stick to the 6x9. That’s what’s in there now.

 

FYI,

Metra does make a bracket to go from the 6x9 to a 6.5 for the front door. If you are interested in running a component set up use this.

 

Agreed. I suggested sticking with the 6x9 to “fill up your door holes!” Components are the way to go though, you don’t want the sound down by your feet.

another question would it be worth it to sound deaden the doors while I have them open to replace the speakers?

 

I’m pro deadening, even if it’s just behind the speaker. It does help kill resonances and improve midbass response some. Just a sq.ft. behind the 6x9 is enough. If you want to go crazy, cover the access holes in the inner door skin with HDPE (a plastic cutting board type material), then cover that with deadening.

You have only just begun to travel down the rabbit hole my friend. It only gets more expensive from here!

 

I two sets of Infinity Reference two ways (front and back). And was pleased but wanted tweeters back. The tweeters receive signal from HU and send to front door driver.
So, kept rear Infinity 6x9 and ordered Alpine 6.5" driver and Alpine tweeters... Outdoor GB is now pleased.

Crutchfield is the place to go if you are like me and are not super technical with this stuff. The folks here are a definite help.
