Looks like Walmart price tags on the shelf.

At one point, I needed a oil filter gasket for a sandwich adapter for oil cooler. Betcha someone needed one, swiped it.

You find things like that there. A box of donuts with one that someone took a bite and such.

Swung by the local Walmart this morning and took an in-depth look at the XG3600. The thing is definitely massive. I should’ve done a side by side comparison to the D3, but didn’t. Overall it looks well made. I’m no filter expert but I mean after holding it and seeing it in person, I’d possibly run it to see how it does.

At least that one has a gasket, I wonder if any of the other internal seals are missing. Guess you'll find out.

I didn’t purchase this filter but I inspected it all over. Looks nicely made overall. My next change might not be until the end of the year, so I’ll decide then. The D3 was $1.43 less than the Fram, surprisingly enough.

Not so great anymore but still good enough for the price point I guess...? It isn't my go-to filter anymore but I would not shy away from it. I am fortunate to have stocked up 10 of the WIX 51516 filters of the previous design... the one with holes (not louvers) in the center tube, base end (not dome end) bypass, etc.

Yes, sir. I like the "blase plate" discussion lol. I have several thoughts about the video's methods and statements, but I don't care to elaborate at this time.

Hmm the one I just installed was on my shelf a couple years so maybe it's the old design

The Ultra/GX is a great filter. You can feel how strong the can is. It also has 100% synthetic media and an ADB valve.

The one you pictured was not an Ultra. Also, it's entirely possible it fell out or was stolen. I once had a Mobil1 filter where the seal was in the bottom of the box.

For the Fram haters.....Google *blank* oil filter failure and insert whatever brand you want.

I'll still NEVER use Pennzoil. LOL
My Auto-Shop teacher in High School said "Pennzoil has too much detergent in it. It breaks down the debris into pieces too small to get caught by any filter. You can always tell if Pennzoil was used just by removing the valve cover and seeing the sludge."
My oil of choice is Mobil-1 synthetic 5W-30 regardless of engine type (22R, 5VZ, 3UR). I do use a quart of Lucas Oil Additive at every oil change on my 22R though, because I get some oil blowby past the rings.

I'm sure you tailor search results to favor any bias, what I do know is that I've only seen 2 oil filters with factory defects and both have been frams. I don't use frams for my own personal use so I see them that often, probably only like 20-30, and 2 failures out of 20-30? thats some bad odds man.

I've been using the Wix filters someone posted a picture of in the previous page only since my friend gave me a half dozen after he traded in his 2nd gen for a 3rd gen... otherwise I had been using OEM filters from the local wally world... I think they cost just under $6 a piece after tax. Hard to beat that. It actually surprised the hell out of me to find the OEM filters where so much cheaper than any of the 3rd party options I've seen. I guess I thought OEM would be more expensive.

Ehhhhh. I’m pretty sure the biggest issue is how tight to get the filter. :D
    Not the filter itself.

    1 hand and a grunt?
    2 hands and a grunt?
    Filter wrench and full beans?

Or do you torque it to spec? (Yes, Yes there is one)

I personally go with 1 hand and a grunt.
