I’m not even sure how to best scale these things, but current $15 minimum hourly wage in CA / base civic cost of 23.5k = ~1,500 hours of labor (pretax and all, but who cares since it’s comparables we are doing). The 1974 Honda Civic math is 2,800/$2hr min wage for 1,400 hours.

So 1400 hours of minimum wage labor (pretax) for a civic v 1500 today for a civic is like a 5% uptick?

Perhaps it’s not *that* worthy of socioeconomic nostalgia goggles.

I understand costs of living shift, and we pay more for other goods and services than we did in other decades, so it’s not apples to apples, but the raw pretax hourly dollars for a Honda Civic are…surprisingly unchanged, no?

Most minimum wage jobs are typically low-skill transient work thats typically only done part-time or on a temporary basis. Minimum wage workers are also generally not buying new cars. The Median average income today is $56k a Honda Civic is about 42% of that. Comparatively an individual income was around $11,000, a civic then was only 25% of your income. That seems more resonable given that a civic should really only cost $14k which would be about 25% base don todays median income.

Well, not that tacos can tow more than 6k or so, but a taco towing 6k > r1t towing the same, in range.

Whoah. Those are big numbers. Rivian only had 14k employees. It was some 4% cut

First time driving an electric vehicle I assume? They are all like that with the instant torque / no torque peak power curve.

11,500 people work for Rivian, so 13% of their workforce was cut

88,000 People work at Ford (in the US) so 11% of their workforce was cut.

Interesting definition of "nothing" you have there. Seems to be in line with the rest of the stuff you have been spewing in this thread.........

    Lol, it ain't Friday yet!

Wonder if they could get more out of the range if they just made them accelerate like a Tacoma.

Egh, probably not. I mean, the 8,000 number is what it is, a number of laid off employees.

Just the way you frame it is wonky. It's like you miss the overall point.

To get their range numbers they aren't doing hard, full throttle launches again and again.

They are in controlled environments, just like fuel economy for any regular car. My Tacoma will get 5 mpg if I go WOT all the time, but that doesn't mean the sticker on the door says 5 mpg.

Launch a Rivian hard all the time and watch that range go wayyyyy down.
