EPA numbers are always a bit inflated from what a soccer mom might get in the real world.

I dream of the day that Toyota announces a fully EV Tacoma and not just a shitty plug in hybrid like the new Tundra.

This is not the point! And it is not even an accurate statement in its own right.

The way an individual operates one vehicle is not a comparable metric of range/MPG's across the wider spectrum of automobile usage.

The standardized tests the manufacturers go through are. Variables are reduced/removed to give the general public a number.

I would not be surprised if the cumulative average of Rivian ranges are below what they state. (This is not to say some folks will do better; stating this to avoid any confusion between individual scenarios and the collective average.)

    SMH.

You can get more range by not accelerating so hard all the time. The acceleration is just a byproduct of the fact that the electric motor is much more efficient and able to instantly be at 100% torque without having to ride a curve to get to peak. If you drive an EV in a weaker mode and are light on the throttle you will get more range.

    No you won't, on average.

Rivian is not sandbagging it's range numbers by driving the R1T aggressively in it's range tests.

It is following a set of rules set forth by the EPA, just like every other auto manufacturer does.

In 95% of driving scenarios, you will be driving your R1T in worse conditions, and in worse ways, than the manufacturer did in their tests to get their certified range numbers.

You may temporarily do better range-wise than the given number of miles, but overall it is going to be on par or, more likely, worse.

My dislike of the plug in hybrids stems from their still relatively shitty fuel economy when compared to true electrics as well as acceleration etc. You also still get all the mechanical shit to maintain that can fail. True EV's like the f150 lightning are getting 70+ MPGe, 0-60 in under 4 seconds. Meanwhile the rav4 Prime, while doing solid numbers at 36 mpg highway, is still just slightly better than a fuel efficient NA engine like a CX5 and not as fast.

I wasn't talking specifically about the Rivian, I was talking EV's in general and yes you absolutely will. Go drive a Tesla pedal to the floor in Ludicrious mode and then change to normal mode. Massive difference in range.

    Geez.

No one is saying that there isn't a difference in range between aggressive driving and 'conservative' driving.

What I am saying is is that the expected range given by the manufacturer is very close to a 'best case' scenario. It is not a number based off of aggressive driving, with consumers being able to squeeze out an additional 100+ miles if they drive like a grandma.

Holy cow. This is basic stuff here.

I agree you can't squeeze out more than the advertised numbers those are best case. You said and i quote " No you won't, on average. " retorting to my point of "You can get more range by not accelerating so hard all the time. " The reality with an EV is that if you stay in a normal mode and are light on the pedal you absolutely will get more range. That "more range" would be closer to the "best case" scenario that is the advertised MPGe. I take it you have never actually owned a true EV like a Tesla? I can drive it in ludicrous mode hard for a week and get ~150 mile range, or I can drive like grandma and get the advertised ~380 miles. Driving behavior and mode has a massive impact on MPGe range.

BUT WAIT!!! Did you know, if you launch a Rivian hard all the time you will watch that range go wayyy down.

Right which was my elementary initial point, EV's range are heavily influenced by driving behavior, more-so than NA engines...
