At least it will be totalled, the aluminum Fords melt when they catch fire. Who would want a burnt vehicle back?

Certainly not me. Can you imagine a EV catching fire in a house garage? Not being able to roll it out by putting it in Neutral...I used to work for restoration/recovery on homes and a car catching fire in a garage scares me.

If your looking for a hybrid and cheap why not get a Maverick? I know only FWD this year but I mean 20 something thousand and you have a very cheap fuel efficient pickup/car?

I'd have considered it when I was shopping if it had been available then.

    Not an explosive substance

The liquid gasoline or diesel that powers a vehicle is not an explosive substance. When lit, liquid gasoline burns fiercely but does not explode. That explains why a car can burn so intensely that it resembles an explosion.

I was looking at the subaru crosstrek and outback. both in the gas and hybrid models- in both cases the hybrid model has less towing and hauling capacity then the gas version- just was not worth it for me,

I was not in the market for a Tacoma but was planning on buying one in 2024 or 2025. When I began to hear about a Gen 4 model in the works I began to research it more. One of the things that really attracted me to the Tacoma was the proven reliability, design simplicity, size, and an offering with a manual transmission. With many Gen 1, 2, and 3 examples with over 250k miles or more, and still reliably running on and off road, it is just what I was looking for. As generalizations about the new model slowly began to be theorized and later “spy photos” along with what was already taking place with Lexus/Toyota model changes here and abroad that made sense to incorporate into a Gen 4, I decided to buy a new Gen 3 now rather than a used one later.

I have owned many forced induction vehicles over the years both gas and diesel and with the current complexity of these engines and the emissions that go with them, I decided against a Gen 4 assuming that it would be automatic only, 4cyl turbo, longer, taller, wider, much more sophisticated electronics, and a host of other features that have little value to me, I got on the list for a 2022. A 2023 would be fine as well, but I was on the list before Toyota rolled out plans for the Tacoma in 2023. Besides, with supply chain issues and manufacturer production cutbacks along with perhaps limited parts availability to make enough 2023 trucks due to suppliers pivoting to the new model, it seemed a prudent call. Perhaps I will regret it but I doubt it. If the 2022 Tacoma I have lasts 20 – 25 years, and I am currently driving a 30 year old import SUV that is in great shape, I will in all likelihood not even be driving anymore and I’ll give it to one of my future grandchildren as a clean, low mileage, one owner truck.

I have read and heard that there are a LOT of issues with the sensors, check engine lights, and overall really lame "safety" baby monitors that go off at the slightest hint of something...

The looks are garbage, but that is a personal thing...
The MPG are not nearly as good as they should have been, especially with the hybrid. Again, perhaps a personally opinion.

My buddies friend has one, been in the shop since he got it, brand new. All kinds of engine lights that wont go off or they cant figure out what is wrong. He has also had turbo waste gate issues that don't function properly and they have to remove the entire motor to get to them to look at (this is what I was told by my buddy)

    Do they squat?

I don't know if it's my imagination, maybe the new Tundra sits almost level front to rear, maybe it's the lines of the truck. Lately the new Tundra looks like it squats a little bit in the rear.

Yes, but time is more valuable. Would suck to have to keep bringing in the truck for issues

So that is needed in order to form a reasonable opinion... Got it
I am pretty certain others did the same thing when the 3rd gen tacoma came out, and were right, myself included.

    But thanks for your opinion

That is part and parcel of coil spring rear ends. I think they should have stuck with leaf springs but that is the design.

It is a brand spankin new design. There is a reason most people would never own a brand new model of anything. My father in law had one of the first EcoBoost's and it was an absolute turd. His later model's to his new 2021 have been absolutely flawless. Now if these same issues still reside in the 2025 models, yeah you can call it crap lol.
