from a certain tuning community where the owner of some company supposedly has a connection with Toyota I heard it was 2025, but as with all that’s going on, that info could be outdated

It won’t take much to out perform the 3.5 in the current trucks at all though. Turbo engines are more than proven reliable at this point.

I am by no stretch of the imagination an expert in either, but from what I've read the Turbo engines produce a lot of stress on themselves and with more moving parts you got more failure points. In a smaller sports car I can see a possible advantage but on a 5,000 pound truck I dunno... time will tell. I certainly wouldn't buy the first models.

I suspect there will be a lot of <100,000 mile failures...

In what world? They've proven to be less reliable, more expensive to repair, and not last as long. Look at all the problems with the new Tundra. They may be "reliable enough" for some, but some of us will never buy a tiny turbo4 for a truck.

Not at all. Small turbo 4 and 6 cylinder engines have been running for decades now in cars, SUVs and trucks with similar reliability as any NA engine.

If there is a new turbo option coming in the future I bet with a few mods and a tune they will be crazy fun to drive and make some great tq numbers

I hope the new Tacoma’s are nothing like the new Tundras. Plagued with problems. Even a Toyota transmission won’t be reliable with a 10 speed.

it’s a first year generation bro, we know this…it’s been addressed ad nauseam.

plagued by problems, as in, you read an internet forum once, and saw a guy post about recalls?

I am very encouraged that the new Crown Platinum has a 6 speed automatic transmission. I remain hopeful that the next generation Tacoma gets a new 6 or 8 speed auto tranny, and not a 10 speed monstrosity like the new Tundra.

I actually sold it to CarMax for more than the Toyota dealers offered me for it. Hopefully my third new 2022 Tacoma this year will be as good as my first 2. (One for son and 2nd for an employee).

Yeah, the new turbo Tundra has "similar reliability" to the old V8. Oh wait lol... now wait for the excuses

Everybody knows the new Tundra’s are having problems with their turbos. This is a common thing that’s going on.

Yes sir, the electrical controller on the turbo waste-gate is “rumored” to be the consistent problem. The turbo on the 2.4L “rumored” to go in the next gen Tacoma will likely have a proven / older tech controlled waste gate that is non-electrical. There is a decent chance that this 2.4L turbo will be as reliable as an Atkinson cycle NA engine.

Just like the 3.5 in the Tacoma had no problems at all during its first year or two, right?

Historically on auto forums, 20 known vehicles out of hundreds of thousands sold is a "problem"......shit always gets blown out of proportion, and you always only hear about the trucks with issues.
