I think the real ace up Toyotas sleeve is that they will be the first to have a mid size truck with coil springs in the rear, basing it off the Tundra platform. This could potentially give them the best riding midsize truck.

The flip side of them cutting cost is they will probably use the 2.4 turbo from the highlander, which is okay at best for power. I hope they develop a Tacoma specific I4 but doubt it will happen

False, we can keep going around and around. I’m not talking (nor have I ever), about taxpayers, assets…i am and continue to speak to the repayment of the bailout. Not sure why you keep arguing against facts.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I find the perspective that the majority in here have pertaining to the reliability and direction Toyota is taking amusing. They are currently being destroyed with issues in the new tundra and have fully committed to turbos and are in fact in the same place GM was several years ago with much the same issues. GM did a revamp starting with the 2021 year model in both turbo engines and the trannys so anything you all might have experienced prior to that is no longer pertinent information but whatever makes you feel good. I can’t imagine the outrage you all would have felt when vehicles moved away from carburetors to EFI in the 80’s!

It’s comical to me because I have been that old get off my lawn full of hate dude. Just go fucking drive one and then go home crack a beer and be honest with yourself and realize you were wrong.

The US taxpayer lost $11 billion bailing out GM. Why haven't GM paid back that $11 billion to the US taxpayer? You said "GM paid back everything" which is wrong. We gave money to GM that will never be repaid.
I don't know why you keep replying, go google this if you have such a hard time coming to terms with it.

If you want coil springs you could get a Ridgeline, or a Ram 1500 classic reg cab if you want something closer to a midsize. Wrangler and Gladitor as well. Plenty of options if someone wants a rear coil spring equipped truck.

@NACAircrew is right. Listen, if i loaned you $100 & then said, “hey, you only owe me $50. It’s cool.” & then you paid me that $50, then we’re even. 100%. That was the deal. Fuck the other $50. That’s what was agreed upon. Period. The US & GM made a deal that GM honored in full. Believe it or not, that’s business. You can sit on the sidelines or get in the game, but what you can’t do is bitch about not playing… I’m not mad at GM.

Looks good, however with a pure ICE lineup, they need a MT for me to even take a look.

I'll go auto when I have a PHEV with 40-50 miles of range. I think most BEV's have gear reducer, so no tranny.

In your deal, I lose $50. You take $50 from me and never pay it back. That's not "even," that means I bailed you out. There's no question that GM took taxpayer dollars and never paid them back.

Saying "that's business" is ridiculous, the bailouts were the opposite of free-market business. The government was picking winners and losers, and GM would have gone out of business without free money from the government.

I forgot the gladiator had rear coils. I more so meant out of traditional midsize trucks it will be the first.

If I were to be in the market for a truck and money was no issue, I would just get the Ram since they ride so good and the Hemi sings a nice song. Alas, money is an issue.

Kind of makes you wonder if you will ever see 6 cylinders in trucks in the near future.
Amazing how nobody has called this a car engine yet .

Yeah, we gave them free money that will never be returned. How is this hard to understand? We gave them tons of taxpayer dollars and they will never be repaid.

Redesign looks nice but the Duramax was the only reason I'd consider buying a midsize GM truck. I don't own one because the overall design of the truck isn't to my liking. The 2.7L L3B is a very complex engine and that's not what I want at all. Power figures sound great and all but my current truck's 261hp/281lbft is more than enough so that isn't doing anything for me either.

I can't even imagine how a ZR2 will be priced if the old one is already $60k (CAD).
