it would probably cost more to ship it anywhere further than 20 miles but yeah you might be able to get some lunch money for it
What's the damage like? And what parts off the front are still good? Your best bet may be to sell it as a starter for a prerunner or keep it and do that yourself

Now I know you’re just trying to troll.

Everyone knows that if you pull up to the sandbar with a nice rig, shirtless dudes will flock and not one single attractive chick. Especially the athletic ones.

That’s like asking a contractor how much does a house cost to build and then saying it needs to have a roof, windows, a kitchen, some bathrooms and maybe a laundry room

So what you’re saying is… Sequioa for the build and to sleep in because I’m not going to be able to afford a house

I’m sorry if my OP came off as ignorant. It will be years in the future and a ton of learning in those. I’m just shooting for a ballpark within those parameters if that’s the right route to go down and hoping to stay motivated if I was to keep the 5 lug. I saw your thread before I made an account and your work over the years is very admirable.

My point was there are so many variables in cost depending on the parts used and the level of detail with the fabrication. It could cost from $50-$500k just like a custom home could range from $100k to $100million

Could I ask how you’d arrange a 99 5 lug ext cab if you had a budget of $100k? How significantly would it differ from $50k?

For reference, my truck probably has 35-40k in parts and materials without labor. Friends made me try to add it up at KOH this year and it was a bit more than that but included past suspension iterations.

And that’s still IFS with leafs and “stock” motor.

5-10k per corner in parts is a good gauge for suspension. Not including cage, engine, or labor. Like @81Trekker said, I’d guess $50k at a bare minimum for a reputable shop to do the work.

I ran without one for a while before a fuel cell. I put a filter on the large port as a vent and capped the rest. And capped the extra line going up front.

Ok that’s what I was looking for. I was thinking either do this, or run an adapter from the tank vent to the hard line that runs up front as the vent.

Thank you very much for your reply, and that absolutely helps perspective. I've heard similar ballpark of $10-20k for the front, $10k-$20k for the rear, $10k for the cab, labor, engine, etc. You have a very good looking double cab.

It was the wrong way to ask. I think my question is more "What would you guys personally do if you had the parameters of wanting a 5 lug with a 5VZ with 5-speed, I-Beams in the front, links in the rear, fully caged with a third seat?"

Or would you have differing ambitions for the truck?

I am new to this and I would like to learn from you guys. I know with 5 lugs especially that options are pretty limited. A good friend told me the aforementioned is what I'd be shooting for if I wanted a relatively low maintenance truck that could take a beating. I've read horror stories of trucks like the 5 lug running leafs and shackles repeatedly breaking amounting in damages that exceed initial investment of what links would have been, or excessive maintenance and potential for many things to break often say if I had a JD kit in the front.

That Ranger is starting to look pretty good.

Oh yessir I agree. Or better yet a full size Bronco. Just hard to beat the classic lines of the Tacoma and how good they look custom to that point in my opinion. I heard they really seem to boogie with something about the balance of these trucks when set up right as well.

I think for most of the guys in this thread, it's not about what's easier, it's about what we want. @81Trekker and other's have said time and again the Tacoma platform isn't the best one to start with, but here we all are, doing what we want like kids in the candy store with too much money.

    Thanks.

And you’re new or at least assume you’re newer to the offroad scene so I don’t know if it was the wrong thing to ask, but that is a very ambitious build. And if you want to build that platform then there’s nothing stopping you from doing so. It’s only going to be slightly more work than something like a ranger that came with beams from scratch.

Engine swap is an engine swap. Some have more aftermarket support such as the LS platform, and some don’t.

Linking a non-linked truck is gonna be roughly the same amount of work regardless of the platform you start with.

I’d say the only thing that will be slightly more work starting with the Tacoma would be beams. But that also depends on the scope of what your end goal is. You want to huck it like darron parsons and some of the terracrew guys, you’re gonna be ditching the factory mounts anyways

Put your Tacoma cab on a ranger frame that already has a V6 and I beams.

Just sharing the Ranger too add context to the variables of buying vs building. I agree we all want what we want and that may never be the best financial option. He was just asking about cost of so I was just showing options.

Right on. I also like knowing what's been done to my vehicle and by who. buying a prebuilt rig that's been abused by someone else and built by who knows is something I'm a bit leery on unless I got a bank account to back it up. I've been burned on normal vehicles buying used before, can't imagine what'd be like buying a 50k+ rig only to find out it's a lemon. Plus I like doing as much of my own work as I feel comfortable with, then I can claim it's built not bought
