While there are EV's that charge on power grids that primarily generate power from non-renewable sources, it is still much more efficient than simply pouring gasoline (oil that has to be refined) directly into a shitty ICE engine. Utilizing coal/natural gas to generate power onto the grid that is drawn upon is a much more efficient use of the non-renewable. That's also just scratching the surface, not even getting into the massive inefficiencies of driving around thousands of fuel tankers everyday just to bring fuel to gas stations lmao.

Why do you have to be a douche?
Who cares if a truck can tow a heavy load 200’? If I can’t tow a load a reasonable distance and still get home afterwards it’s useless as a tow ve

It's definitely a strange recession when consumer spending is still going strong and we are still adding jobs every single month. Asset prices have corrected but still haven't pulled back below the insane growth they had over the prior year. Q1 GDP had a massive trade imbalance due to the ports catching up and US recovering quicker from Covid than our European counterparts. France is already experiencing stagflation and many European countries are headed towards stagflation as well.

It seems like a pretty interesting and entertaining conversation to me. Much better than what tires and roof rack should I get threads.

It's funny, I see stuff like this posted all the time in various articles but no one can actually give the formula to where the efficiency is lost. Everyone talks about the laws of thermodynamics and then random percentages comes out but show me the math behind the calculation between energy production and mechanical conversion.

At the end of the day the efficiency doesn't really matter, it's moot, ICE engines accomplish what we want with minimal cost, maintenance and commitment. People complain about gas prices but people are spending less and less on fuel, mainly because they dont have to drive as much.

efficiency may not matter to some, but it has a place within the conversation

the solution for EV would be a network of overhead trolly wires

you know like trains and shit...

direct charging doesn't derive from 100% renewable energy. It "CAN" but i dont know any local solar, wind turbine that can actually produce the amount of energy required as of right now and most dont collect energy in a home battery system either. Is this a "look at what could be possible" chart? What you are dealing with "NOW" is liquid/gas/coal to power conversion loss then transferred through the power grid (loss) into the battery of your vehicle. Im not an electrical engineer but i can tell you the least amount of conversions a power source goes through results in less loss of energy.

Fucking thank you! This thread is finally going somewhere! Can we at least all agree that a truck powered by sweater meat would be the greatest truck of all time?

You are wrong. Generating electricity to a grid using natural gas/coal and then having EV's draw that power to utilize is more efficient than pouring gasoline (refined crude oil) directly into an ICE engine, not even accounting for externalities such as transporting the fuel.....

How do you think power plants utilize natural gas to create energy? They are capturing the massive amount of heat (inefficiency that is lost in an ICE engine) and creating electricity. Natural gas power plants are 60% energy efficient.
