I looked at Framed for a fat bike and ended up not buying it because of the warranty fine print. Unless it’s assembled by a professional bike shop, the warranty is null and void. Considerably more money than that BMX bike though, but was still a big turn off none the less. Trying to be a direct to consumer brand and have stipulations like that buried in the fine print…

 

from what I’ve gathered, this bike verses name brand is you get a better frame material wise, not sure about craftsmanship wise though, but worse bearings.

as you said it’s possible they made by same people in same factory.

I think I’ll go for it. Even if it’s not my thing it opens others up to come with me and see what they think of either the 20” or 26”.

If the frame fails or what have you just slowly build better I guess. I was looking at some fitbikeco bike frames for fun since made in America. Just couldn’t pull that trigger on a $400 steel frame.

 

Haha. I think it's like extra staged by the dude because there's a camera. But he is legit following a pro level rider so I can see absolute terror in some of it. Haha! Still hilarious.

 

Could sorta be like the show "Idiot Abroad" where they knowingly put them in a scenario over the guys head and rig him with cameras to capture it.

You can tell he isnt totally a greenhorn though considering the stuff in 1 and 2 he is able to ride.

Heals down eyes up! ha The simple tip I give every newer rider. I remember seeing the eyes up thing in a video a long time ago and it was for sure an ah-ha moment for me.

yeah. He was able to navigate some of the jumps just fine and knows how to control and scrub speed with his brakes decently well. ha!

Hey Y’all, about to pull the trigger on my dream hardtail and would appreciate some input on negotiation. This is my first serious Mountain Bike purchase and I don’t mind spending the money for a used bike if the price is right. The bike in question is a used XL Trek Stache 5 with the following components. Seller is asking $2900.00 which initially seamed a bit steep but as I added up the components I think his asking price might be fair….(I could be wrong), although he informed me he’s open to some negotiation.
“Selling my XL/21.5” Trek Stache 29er. Bike absolutely rips. Had it built as a single speed but just converted it back to geared. Has a Fox 34 Rhythm 140mm GRIP fork with integrated Syncros mud guard, 175mm RaceFace 32t cranks, Bontrager Line 30 Elite wheels with 108 points of engagement, 11spd Shimano XT M8000 rear shifter, 11spd Shimano XT M8000 rear derailleur, 11x42t cassette, 2.4” Bontrager SE4 tires, Bontrager Rhythm Pro seatpost, 143mm Specialized Henge saddle, Spank Spoon 785mm bars with 50mm blue ano Spank Spoon stem, Shimano Deore one finger brakes, Kona lock on grips with .243 Racing base ends, Salsa seat post clamp, and a few other matching anodized and carbon pieces throughout. Boost spacing, tapered steerer, room for 3” plus sized tires, internal routing. Pedals stay with me. Easy to covert to single speed with sliding dropouts and Shimano splined freehub.”

Seems like a lot of money for what you’re getting to me. I’d ask what happened to the old components, if he still has them and just upgraded or they were just straight worn out which may tell you how much use the bike has seen. I could be off base but it seems that bike should be a lot closer to $2k for what it is. Anything else on the market in your area to compare to?

he told me he bought the bike in its stock form then upgraded nearly everything. From my research this seems to be the case, specifically relating to the fork, drivetrain and wheels. I was going to purchase the New Stache frame from Trek (based off the 7) and build my own (with similar components of what he already has on the bike and it looks like I’ll be pushing $4000.00 which is why I’m considering this deal.
New/comparable bikes with the hardware he has are close to the same price of what he’s asking, or possibly more. I’m sold on the Stache though but as Trek no longer sells them complete (only the frame) my only option is to build my own ( which gets expensive fast) or buy used.

 

the fork and wheels are the only components that really stand out to me. the question on what happened to the single speed components is valid also. if those are super worn then chances are the wheels and fork are well used too. if they're in good condition then it could be worth the price, but for almost 3k, it still seems kind of steep. it's a used aluminum bike and the market is cooling down according to most people
