Same engineers that can’t figure out timing cover gaskets, plastic coolant bypass pipes and 3rd brake lights?

If I did mostly highway miles then sure, 10k is fine. I drive in dusty conditions a lot, carry a bunch of extra weight at all times, and drive in stop and go traffic quite often. 5k it is.

Its likely the bean counters you can thank for those issues. I know how most engineers operate, working with them. They come up with a solid product thats usually overrated till the bean counters get involved scaling it back so it just makes it by the warranty period. Like i posted earlier there's 5k for those with use as you have...10k for everyone else that does normal use as myself. I do some light trailering, and carry around a little extra weight a times, but don't consider it in the severe category.

Judging by the amount of metal particles in my oil at my first break in oil change at 3k I'd say an early first oil change is a good idea.

But I mean the filter caught all that.

I did my first at about 8k. Planning to keep my truck till the wheels fall off so we will see.:)

Every 5k is inconvenient for how much I drive. It would be every two months….

I only put on about 35k miles so far. So it’s like every 6-7 months. Haha

Just do this with what's left over with the 7th quart and you'll be GTG inside and out.

Every 5k miles for me as per my pal who is a Toyota master tech that used to be on their NASCAR pit team. Buy oil by the cases (12x1 quart bottles per box) so it's a little bit cheaper per unit. I know this isn't a race car but if you are that stingy about spending $60 per oil change and DIY for a peace of mind on a $50K+ truck then hey, to each their own.

Nascar pit team? That says it all, those guys would have you changing your oil ever 500 miles.

That was over a decade ago, he now owns his own shop which specializes in Toyota and has the standing local record on his 4Runner which just reached 700k+ km which is around 435k miles.

If we actually trusted Toyota Engineers, our rides would be totally stock. And yet, we second guess them left and right w/ aftermarket parts.

People don’t mod their trucks because they don’t trust Toyota, they mod their trucks because the stock was the best one size fits all that Toyota could come up with, but one size does not in fact fit all. People use their trucks in so many ways.

So folks who off-road don’t change suspension parts on their Tacoma OR trucks. Got it.
