No idea what you are on about. Toyota has been in the EV game since 1997. Electric has its place but it's not a full replacement for gas and diesel

"The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) completed a study from 1999 to 2003 which found U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average of 2,210 bus fires per year. This translated to six bus fires reported every day. "

I'll concede that a lithium fire is a different beast don't be fooled by a single news article that bus fires are only limited to electric buses.

Fortunately, I linked you an article explaining it! Toyota were in the hybrid game and put all of their bets on hydrogen.

It was only this year that investor pressure forced them to pivot to EV investments.

    This is pretty well reported:

    https://www.theverge.com/2021/10/18/22732641/toyota-ev-battery-factory-us-investment-spend-amount

    https://electrek.co/2021/03/17/toyo...elusional-effort-slow-down-electric-vehicles/

    https://chargedevs.com/newswire/toyota-actively-lobbies-against-support-for-evs/

    https://driving.ca/auto-news/indust...-for-lobbying-against-climate-policies-report

It's not a full replacement, no with the most obvious example being big rigs. But I'd bet it's a totally functional wouldn't-even-notice for 90% of people posting in this thread. There's a huge amount of luddism posting here.

depending on how the fire has progressed. if you have an extinguisher in your truck you can put it out ASAP but most dont. way different than a chemical fire

You don’t refuel an ICE vehicle in your garage while you and your family sleeps. Lithium packs have a tendency of exploding when they recharge and anyone who has had radio control cars and drones will know this.

My neighbor parks her Tesla at the end of the driveway when she charges it because she’s afraid it will catch fire overnight and burn down her house. Some new homes in California have sprinklers in the garage, like that will put out an EV.

What do those same houses in California do with their battery backups for their solar when it is taking in 10-15 kilowatts? Are fires only an issue overnight?

This is an example of the luddism I'm talking about -- it's just fear mongering. Auto insurance studies and the National Highway Transportation Authoritys own study (the federal government body responsible for vehicle safety) show that full EV have fewer incidence of car garage fires than ICE vehicles. It's more likely that an ICE vehicle will catch fire but in both cases, very unlikely overall.

Catching fire while charging naively sounds like a cool thing that might happen but there's no evidence that it's more likely while charging, either. Charging is highly regulated by a wall charger and is actively cooled unlike when driving.

Also, to be very clear, the battery technology used in RC cars is not the same technology used in EV batteries. RC cars use Lithium Polymer and EV use Lithium Ion. They share one word but they aren't the same. Even if we pretended they used the same battery technology, they don't use the same battery controllers or regulators.

Where do you charge your cell phone?

I've dealt with hobby battery backs for years, only lithium problem I ever had was when the shitty design had the screw holding the door to the battery compartment go *into* the battery, rupturing the pack. They only explode when recharging on shitty chargers that don't have the correct voltage regulators.

Catching fire while charging is more than likely the wiring to the charger than it is anything else.

I would never install them in my own house, I would probably locate them somewhere off the main property in a shed or something, but that’s only if I ever have to.

I know with the Tesla powerwall, people are either extremely satisfied with them or hate them because it has a ridiculously high failure rate and no support from Tesla.

One of the ladies at my wife’s temple had four of them installed and three of them didn’t work out of the box. She’s still waiting six months later for Tesla to do something about it.

Electric downside #1001: Charging cables are tripping hazards when you remember that you need to put the trash and recycling on the street in the middle of the night.
