Tesla installed mine. I’m not sure how they would have left DOA units unless these were purchased with the intent of someone else doing the installation and now there is finger pointing going on.

Did you read the Jalopnik articles? I have never put out a vehicle fire in my life, so I have zero experience in the matter.

The author of the article wrote that more than just water should be used to extinguish an EV battery fire.

Everything that I have read about extinguishing a highvoltage BEV fire says to only use water to cool the batteries, and extinguish the fire.

I also thought that you are not supposed to mix foam suppressant and water on the same fire.

    How about the Chevy Bolt?
Fear of an EV burning your house down while charging is real. Fear of a ice vehicle catching fire while parked and not running is pretty non existent.

Tesla installed hers as well, they are a shit company with shit business practices. They are the same people that will deliver you a car with the seats not bolted down and fingerprints inside the headlight lenses.

And, by the way, I don’t charge anything with lithium in it overnight or leave it plugged in when I’m not around. I don’t charge my phone at night, I charge it up before I go to bed then I turn it off.

I’ve had an iPhone SE swell up because the battery pack failed without any damage and a Lenovo laptop do the same thing.

Both the Chevy bolt and the Hyundai/Kia EV‘s were having exploding battery pack issues and customers were told not to park their cars inside their homes.

That's like saying you won't buy a gas car because of the Ford Pinto.

I showed you the statistics from the official federal governing body that shows it is less likely to happen an EV than to an ICE. If you're still more scared of EV than ICE it's just pure luddism because the facts don't support you. Fear can be irrational and in this case, it is.

Millions of people charge their phones overnight and don't die. In fact, almost nobody ever dies. If we're at "I won't plug my phone in because I'm going to burn to death" levels then we're well beyond the realms of rational reasoning about EV and deep, deep into fear of new technology.

I highly doubt that. I'm a fairly typical truck owner, and I tow way too much for an EV to work as my "truck." Though I'd be fine with an EV car to drive around town.

Also It's gonna be a long while before the infrastructure is there. Hell a lot of the west barely has enough gas pumps to travel without some anxiety

I'd bet good money that less than 10% of this forum tows with any regularity and when they do they aren't towing to the vehicle capacity, instead towing small 1500lb loads with dirt bikes/snowmobiles/etc and loads that small barely influences EV range.

I think the infrastructure comment is totally fair for some parts of the US and unrealistic for others. There's definitely big gaps in some of the flyover states where lobbying and luddism has held back EV adoption with Michigan being the most extreme example (those Detroit boys gotta protect that cash).

I'm not sure what intentions OP had with this thread.

But 48 pages later, I think OP succeeded.

No but it caused 27 deaths which is more people than have ever died from house fires caused by EV. I actually tried to compare statistics but I can't find a literal single incident of that actually occurring. Deaths in plug-in hybrids in car accidents (because gas + battery = bad), sure, but is far as I can tell deaths from garage fires as just an invention of FUD.

It's pretty clear that a lot of this is just rigidity and FUD stemming from distrust of new technology. That's not something we can debate rationally. Fortunately, time moves monotonically forward whether you like it or not.

The weight you tow has far less impact on range than you might think. The aerodynamics play a huge roll.
A small travel trailer and a headwind will destroy range. It's nice to have a five gallon gas can along in case
