The SWAT box is pretty awesome.

 

I doubt it’s stretch since it’s only a couple hundred miles. I think I just sized it too long the first time. This one seems to be much happier in the stand, we will see how it is outside this weekend. They are both sram, one is the GX chain and one is NX so that should all be good.

it could also be that I went too long between waxing. I want to say it was 200-300 miles on the first waxing.

we will see though, I’m not too worried about it haha

 

For all the grief the Big "S" gets and deservedly so in most cases, they almost always come thru with warranty replacement it seems.

I cracked the chain stay on my steel Sequoia, they sent a complete brand new bike, told the LBS that they wanted a complete bike back in return. I took my wheels, seat and seat post and swapped them on to the new bike frame with new drive train, cranks, BB, Headset, brakes. Sent back my 3 yr old bike with the new wheels an seat/post.

Worked out pretty good!

 

Oh. Yeah.... If they're different lengths then you'll definitely run into issues. Chain length is pretty critical with 12speed AXS.

200 miles is pretty much the longest I'll go before re-waxing.

 

I have always done all of my headsets and BB - made my own tools to do so aside from remove, I use Park headset and BB removal tools (diff sizes for diff diameters). You need to understand what you are trying to do as you can push them in crooked and mess them up. No too bad though.

Yeah I was afraid when I put the first chain on that it might be too long. This should confirm it.

Not sure if I’m doing a mountain bike or gravel ride tomorrow. It just rained so it might be gravel by default. Either way I got both bikes ready with some much needed love.

 

You can make something like that Park removal tool using copper pipe. I've used this one in the past in a pinch.

I'd still recommend the proper tools though. It's easy to mess up.

Alternatively if you take your bike, with the fork and old headset already removed, and ask them to remove the cups and install new ones they shouldn't charge you much. Pretty quick and easy job with the right tools.

I got this to install my new bottom bracket a few weeks ago. The big thing is that it comes with the cups for a lot of press fit bottom brackets which I think are worth it alone. The “press” itself is basically nice hardware store bits haha. It works though and is cheaper than the park tool option.

I have an actual park tool Bottom bracket and headset remover since they are cheapish relative to other tools

 

+1 on proper tools.

But I have used solid pvc round as a punch for removal and have used pvc flat stock and tapped the cups in more than id like to admit.

Dry ice. Use the leftover for dent removal.

 

Press fit headsets and BBs are a couple of the only things I haven't done myself on a bike. A cheap removal tool and something like

this will probably get it done. I've done plenty of non-bike-related press fits in the past with PVC/block of wood/etc and a mallet. The orientation of the cup is important with the angle set though. My LBS options are extremely limited, but I'll reach out to the least inconvenient option and see what they would charge.

 

Scrap wood + patience + finesse = proper tools.

I wouldn't do a press-fit BB without proper tools, but I've done headsets on aluminum and steel bikes. Carbon scares me a little.

 

Yeah it's a carbon bike.

 

Carbon is definitely scary…with the right tool it should be fine though. With the right tool the bearings will stay squared up and go in fine.

 

A little spit goes a long way.

Got a ride in on the gravel bike today.

 

I wouldn’t do it with out the tools. You don’t have to get expensive tools like Park Tool to do it but having the tools will make a lot easier. Taking the cups off and installing the new ones is pretty straight forward and there’s a lot of videos on You Tube on how to do it if you need help. I have some I picked up on Amazon not the best but for the few times I’ve had to use them they work just fine.

 

12 spd is super sensitive to chain length and B tension. If either are just a little off, it shifts like utter shit.
If anything is just a little off, it shifts like shit.
Currently fighting with my Shimano drivetrain. I think it's a slight kink in the housing. Shifting like shit.
Thinking of trying the ShAXS+ (Shimano crank/chainring/chain/cassette w/AXS shifter+derailleur) route soon...

Man, that is definitely NOT par for the course with Spesh. Don't know how the hell that happened, but they definitely do not take care of warranties like that on the norm.
A close friend had a crack in his BB area on a 1 Y.O. Stumpy. They said it was because he had a tool in his SWAT that created stress in the area. They let him order a new one at crash replacement cost. Another close friend has his paint start peeling, at the head tube. They said it was a sticker... Which there was none. No help. Warranty service is super inconsistent with them.
