Why would you even think about that? It's not like these are collectibles where numbers matching is a judgement point. And that's what warranty is for. To fix stuff.

That would be a great solution. You'll likely only get the part that is broken though. Either a short block or a head. But the warranty is easy peasy for them to do.

Bottom line OP find out about #6 cylinder other wise you are wasting words and your time. If indeed it's got a problem make them fix it even if it doesn't cure your issue.

 

This appears to be a different issue. Rod failure possibly after hydraulicing a cylinder on an incline.

 

I remember back in the day when the old man had a plymouth volare slant 6. The car would constantly run rough and stall in traffic. Dealer kept telling him it was bad gas, so he went to different place's to fill up, but still had the issue...in the meantime this dealer was draining his fuel tank every time getting free gas while writing up a warranty complaint. It pissed off the old man so much he went to his independent garage having his guy look at it. Turned out to be a carb issue that they easily fixed. No problem after that till the head liner fell on him while driving pissing him off even more.

 

Because a companies product suffered a catastrophic engine failure and will be worth less in the future due to an engine replacement. Just simple economics.

 

My new ride for a while. Loaner agreement plainly says no smoking. Seems someone didn't agree. Imagine that. Wife Fabreezed the interior and I'll leave the windows down all weekend. That should help. Other than that. Not a bad little car.
I've dealt with this Dealership for many years. Got a goodwill warranty on my 2012 for about $2,000.
So far they've been good to work with. We'll see how things go. Fingers crossed.

99.89% of buyers would never know of the replacement or repair.

'Maybe' it will show in Carfax and 'maybe' someone will look and 'maybe' that person will care.

It might matter in those cases in the first 5 years / 100k. After that, not so much.

I think that’s probably the case for a pos Corolla or a 2wd sr. But a TRD Pro in a special one year only color usually has a fairly discerning buyer

Yep, for those fixated on a specific truck because of color/model/trim/whatever… push for a full warranty replacement on the engine and extended warranty from the day you pick the truck back up.

Otherwise, vehicles are tools to get you from one place to another and are disposable.
