Unless they are getting out of a Bronco, why would they choose the ZR2 over a Bronco.

Yep, majority of the consumers get bored very quick. Had my 1st Gen for 20 years and still have it. My wife talked me into a new truck. Plan is keeping this one 10 years, though the ‘24 might sway me to trade in early, something I have never done if you look at my sig.

Trucks for a lot of people are an image thing, not me we grew up in trucks because of our construction business. Did have a few muscle cars when I was younger, but my main vehicle has always been a truck since I use and abuse it. Would kill a car under my thumb.

That has yet to be determined, Toyota hybrids have proven to be long term reliable, would assume their EVs will be even more so. Sure the wheels are coming off the that new BZ, or whatever it is called, guessing that is human error not torquing the lugs properly.

The specs on the Colorado are impressive, (target market is the chest thumping viagra crowd, yeah?) but where are you going to use it? I drive the speed limit, so useless to me….hell, I don’t even use this so-called “underpowered” Tacoma to its full potential.

That's the thing about BEV, they are less than 2% of the vehicles on the road. How can anyone make a determination of their reliability. Manufacturers claim EV are more reliable than ICV, and that total cost off ownership will be equivalent, or less expensive than a lower cost ICV. That may be true, that may be false. That has yet to be proven.

I'd rather thump my chest in a Raptor R, than a Colorado, it has a V8.

Impatience. If you can find a dealer that doesn't have a 30K+markup on them that actually has one in stock.

In the long run EV's should be more reliable because they have fewer moving parts, less complexity in their design, and way less wear and tear in the engine due to the lack of combustion. As others have said as well, time will tell but the evidence dictates that when you have less complexity, less moving parts, and less wear and tear it will results in a longer lasting more reliable engine.

The batteries, at least in the US, have a minimum 8-year, 100k mile warranty; that is the law. A friend of mine just replaced the batteries in his 15 year old Prius for the first time, it cost him $6,800.

That is about the same as a new reman engine for my 1G. This doesn’t even include all the accessories or labor either.

I don’t understand this whole “less complex” part.

They still have radiators, power steering, power brakes, air-conditioning, transmissions, drive shafts, bearings, etc.

Literally the only thing you are removing from the equation is the internal combustion engine, all the parts attached to it that make it a car are still there.

But all BEV opperate from a touch screen on the dash. The electronic infotainment system is the 1st thing to fail in a ICV.

According to Consumer Reports, EVs are not the most reliable vehicles.

Since you had a 85 4Runner, I'm sure you know Toyota had a Turbo gas engine in the 4Runner then and they are now selling at Auctions for big money with well over 200k miles on them. I have 0 worries that the 2024 Tacoma will be just as reliable as the current one as the Turbo tech has had 40 years from those days to improve.

The good specs don't have to mean you are chest thumping. It can simply mean the truck is more pleasurable to drive, don't have to wind it out to pass on highway or merge around town. I'm sure if you end up getting an EV in 10 years you won't be upset when it comes with 700 lb/ft of torque at 0 rpm :)

Used to be able to it for $2000-3000 using Toyota parts. Or a low mile JDM for 1200-1500, those are 3000 now. It has gotten nuts, Jasper doesn’t even have anything in stock right now.

Oh yeah remember those turbos, they were a stop gap measure until they started throwing in the V6s.

Seriously looked the Ranger, didn’t go that route because it has a turbo, actually spent more on the Tacoma not to have a Turbo.

Sure they’ll go 200K easy without any major repair, highly doubt they’ll go 400K+ like my 1G. Even then the engine is still running, just needs head work, but we decided to put a fresh engine in it instead of throwing money at an engine that has that many miles on it.

When I say chest thumping referring to the “look at me” blinged out trucks. Can only get the H.O. engine in the top of the line bloated Colorado. Love that the Rivian looks like a plain sad robot and will lay a Raptor and TRX to waste. Still more power than I personally will ever need or use though. Much rather have a detuned version with a 500 mile range.

Generally everything around the engine will need replacing before it goes. Trust me I know, owned my 1G 20 years, have replaced about everything but the engine, and now it finally is having issues.

My 5th Gen 4Runner I replaced the steering rack, PS pump, and CV axles. The door locks also broke. Engine at 120k and 9.5 years is still strong.

"the loan" wasn't the only money GM got from the government. They got $11 billion in free money from the bailout.

That's the only thing that would have me in a Colorado, only because no one else offered it. Unfortunately those will hold their value forever now. I can scratch them off the list because I don't particularly like the truck otherwise and certainly wouldn't pay a premium for one.
