    Close to 2 months of drought, and now monsoon season.... Major flooding in Eastern Kentucky. So far at least 25 confirmed dead. Here, it just keeps raining.

    Lynch is now considered the poorest town in the state. Cumberland hasn't recovered since International Harvester shhut down their coal mine there in the 80s.
    There's a little town between Lynch and Cumberland....Benhem..IH built a high school there in the 20s, for miners kids. After the mine closed, so did the school
    It is now a hotel, considered one of the most hunted places in Kentucky.
    We stay there when we go to Black Mountain Off Road PRk

    I went on a tour of what was then a USS coal mine in the 1980s. I think it was in Lynch. I also climbed Black mountain and picked wild strawberries. As I rummaged through the patches, the person I was with said. "look out for the rattlers." they love the strawberries too."

    That is an underground mining museum now. We toured it about 5 years ago. Last trip there, I commented to a local that I didn't see anyone under about 50 years old... He told me anyone with a future left for greener pastures

    Black Mountain is the highest point in KY. And yes you'll find rattlers therre...and black bears galore.
