No, I'll be along to tell you that people burn to death in ICE cars at a higher rate than they do EV cars, per the National Highway Transportation Safety Authority's official stats, and that you still drive an ICE car regardless of those statistics.

My entire point is that statistically there is very, very little different between the two engine types from a safety perspective. You've yet to provide any statistics to the contrary -- probably because you know they don't exist -- and instead drop pointless anecdotes and what-ifs. The data does not support your assertion that EV are inherently less safe.

Again, if a single anecdote or two about EV fires is enough to deter you from the technology then the Ford Pinto incident should have kept you away from cars entirely. It didn't, though, because you accept statistics when they support your worldview.

 

Saftey aside, an EV fire inside of a parking structure has the potential to cause more damage than a conventional ICV fire. EV fires are less likely to occur, but they burn at higher temperatures and often take longer to extinguish.

 

I guess we’re lucky that corporations can’t just use an excuse of “sorry shit happens”. 16 Bolts caught on fire before they were all recalled. There would have been a lot more shit happens stories if it is wasn’t taken seriously.

What a fuckin goat rodeo. My comments are really in no particular order, just as I think of them while mattress shopping & trying to hold a 10 month old baby. I've driven my Chevy Volt for the last 6 years about 150k miles and can tell you first hand that its ~40 miles of EV range covers everything I need about 99% of the time. Do I need to plan ahead and check if my destination has a charger? Yep. Is that as convenient as just getting in & going? No. But the time I save not going to gas stations, as well as the money I save, far outweight any slight inconvenience I experience if & when I need to charge at my destination. Yes, I drive a PHEV but I prefer to treat it as an EV and see how long I can stretch the mere 40 miles I have. As of now I've been to a gas station one time since December. I may not need gas again until Thanksgiving.

People that want 300+ miles of range and a 5 minute recharge time (and vehemently deny that anything less than that is even remotely useful) clearly have zero clue about EV ownership. Every single day you get into your vehicle with a completely full "tank" for the trip. A lot of people in the last 50 pages probably only really use their truck to tow over 150 miles once or twice a decade, but God forbid the first & only EV truck on the market not be able to do it for them. And FYI to all the "get off my lawn" crowd.... Just because a vehicle doesn't conform to 0.01% of the use cases doesn't invalidate it as a perfectly great vehicle for the other 99.99% of the consumers. How often do any of you tow 6k lbs with your Taco at WOT up Davis Dam? If you did that then you could bet your ass your pitiful mpg would be single digits & range would be maybe 25%. Seems crazy to think that way right? And yet here we are 50 pages in with people saying this truck is only good to tow for 50 miles. Sure. Under a very abusive set of towing conditions that may be true....just like your beloved Tacoma (pause for the audience to realize their comparisons are akin to grade schooler levels of logic).

The disinformation running rampant in this thread is scary. You people have an internet connection. Nearly all of our power comes from cleaner sources than the fraction of a percent of you that live near a coal fired plant but somehow keep squawking about how dirty it is to charge/mfg. an EV. Get out of your little bubble.

Anyone shopping for a Rivian is not even considering a Tacoma. Period. Hard stop. Toyota is about 10 years behind the competition on their vehicles in terms of technology & aesthetics. They sell because they're reliable, that's about the only leg up they have on the competition.

The initial starting price for the Rivian was $67.5k & they increased it to $79.5k. Where the hell are you getting new Tacomas for ~$20k!? I've got cash & will buy a few of them today if you provide the source. 30 seconds on this forum will show new Tacomas frequently selling for $45k+, over $50k for the TRDBro with those sick wheels & grilles that are so unique (/s). This is proven weekly by our forum-mates that post pics of Monroney stickers proudly after getting bent over by the dealers.

The production process takes longer, requires more chips, and that's before the amount of time it takes to get batteries manufactured.

Yes...but what does that have to do with your claimed lack of EV sales based on not seeing them on lots? We know Tacomas don't sit on lots long either right now and that has nothing to do with a lack of sales.

 

The best product is the one that is readily available, in stock and ready to buy at a discounted price.

If an EV was the best product they would be available for immediate purchase. Products are only as good as the process in which they are produced.
