If they replaced the entire engine, then I’d call that a positive and not a negative. Someone will get a truck with about 20K miles on it but zero miles on the engine. Sounds good to me.
(I had a Dodge Dakota that had its engine replaced at 17,000 miles. No issues after that)

 

exxon is the one gas brand i stay away from. makes my truck run with reduced power, bogs, and the exhaust smells like sulfur. i know people will say all gas is the same but that's not true. doesn't matter what exxon station i fill up around here, it all reeks of sulfur.

 

Why do we have fingers crossed that Toyota will take care of it? Isn’t it still under warranty?

 

Kind of think you would hear that. It also is an interference engine so it really will make some bad noises when the piston slaps the valve with the broken spring.

 

Engines quiet as a mouse. No unusual noises. Just a little rough idle at times.

 

They pretty much removed sulfur from gasoline in 2004. By 2017 it was down to 10ppm.

Our 2014 Tacoma we picked up in April was owned by a former smoker. When it started getting hot I could really notice it. Only thing that knocked most of it out was to scrub all the interior plastics (bucket of water was pure brown). But, in a loaner I wouldn't expect you to go through all that. I just slapped a Little Tree's Fresh Shave freshener and called it a day afterwards

 

Feds emission mandate no one got to chose.

 

Personality, I'd rather have my original engine with 16k miles untouched and without any issues. Than have a brand new engine with zero miles in the truck.

All i know when it comes to gasoline, its not all the same for different regions in our country. Even here the gas isn't quite the same as top tire brands vs the discount places. Yeah the cheaper stuff runs fine but usually has less detergents.

 

Back in the day toyota never replace an entire new engine in warranty, just the parts that failed. When my 22r broke the crankshaft due to a metallurgical failure, the dealer only changed the crank.

 

Fingers not crossed that it will be repaired under warranty. Fingers crossed it will be repaired correctly under warranty. I want to drive this truck to 300K.
