I bought my new to me 2018 Taco 4x4 TRD about 2 weeks ago and noticed that I have a slight vibration in the gas pedal when accelerating on the highway about 65 to 75 mph. It's a slight buzz feeling that is only present when pressing on the gas pedal and goes away as soon as I lift my foot off the pedal.

    It's stock with 58k miles.

My instincts tell me it might be a u joint or driveshaft problem or maybe even motor mounts or transmission mount but it would surprise me if those parts have failed this quickly on a truck with only 58k miles.

Ive searched the forums and it seems like this is a sort of common problem. Any ideas on what this could be or how to fix it?

As for fixing it...yeah, you can sell it, or trade it in. Buddy of mine had the same issues with his 2019 trd. Dealer said it was just a trait of these trims.

My sport has never had that issue. Could it be off balanced wheels?

That's what I've heard and which is why it was probably traded in in the first place.

Those 2023 Colorado ZR2s are looking really nice. May trade it in for one of those when they come out

My ‘17 has that vibration 2,000-2,200 rpms as well and now I don’t notice it.

Might be coming from the engine.
Try cheap quick fixes first. Octane booster or switch to premium fuel. Swap out spark plugs.

It might be slight detonation but not loud enough to hear the obvious pinging just yet.

I also feel it in my steering wheel...

Why in the flying f would a basic Toyota 6 cylinder be detonating on regular gas??? This isnt a high compression engine.

My buddy bought a new nissan frontier when he couldn't put up with his tacoma any longer. Now all i keep hearing is how great his frontier is. My sr5 has no vibrations of any sort either, but from what i gather there are those that do, and its normal. I don't know how bad yours is, but i didn't think a buddies was really worrisome when stock until he did a 3'' lift which made it way worse.
I guess like a truck from any manufacture, they all have their faults...just a matter of being lucky enough to get one thats a good build. I've gotten what i call average, or below 4wd pickups in the past from toyota that i thought could have been better, but have to say the last 2 have been very good like the 1979 one i had.

Actually the compression is considered high, but with the electronic, and mech, systems it has it should be able to run perfectly fine on 87 grade fuel. I have no issues whatsoever with detonation. It runs best on 87 thats e10 here. I always use top tier gas, and i know our gas here is always very fresh, unlike mid western states i've been in.

Holy crap I just looked it up. 11.8:1 is very high compression. More than what's in my Chevelle

Op, before you go in the rabbit hole, check your 2018 tacoma if the engine ecu has been updated and runs current version.

I guess with their direct fuel injection, etcs-i, and acis they made it possible to run 87 grade gas, and well, at least here. I see countless gen3 's on the roads everyday. They can't be that bad if all these people have them. I think the only other manufacture i see more are ram. Seems you have to get in the bigger cities if you want to see more gm, and ford trucks.

    My man…..lol
High Compression for sure for us old school guys. These direct injection engines get carbon build up too. So like I said the cheap route is just throw some octane booster or Chevron Premium or something just for shits and giggles. It won’t hurt anything.

Steering wheel buzz too though….. sounds more like wheels, tires or possibly one of the suspension bushings.

Try rotating the tires to see what happens.

Steering wheel and gas pedal ONLY when gas is applied. If it was tires it would vibrate consistently with the foot on the gas or not.

Vibration under load means it must be transmission, u joints, possible rear pinion. It does have a slight pinion hum at highway speeds.

I would take it to the dealer but I know I won't get anywhere with them.

I will fill it up with 91 octane when my tank runs dry
