  3. 3. Make a considerable compromise in color or equipment to get a Tacoma at all?

    40 vote(s)
    11.9%
  4. 4. Get super lucky with an inbound vehicle or cancellation in a relatively short timeframe?

    96 vote(s)

Exactly what I learned from my dealer when I tried to “Boss Request” to change to a different color. He said what happens is Toyota looks at what they sell and based on what’s sold they get an allocation on how many vehicles they will get. I believe it happens twice a month. They’ll get a number of vehicles they’re going to get and then by the end of that week, they’ll know exactly what. For example 20 vehicles for an allocation, and then 6 are trucks, and 14 are cars and then whatever those come with as far as accessory wise.

A bit frustrating. I do understand with this environment they can’t accept custom factory build requests. But I wish they would at least try and match the new inventory to the requests when they make the allocations vs random. They aren’t allowing dealerships to trade inventory. And many dealers are restricting new car sales to local residents to increase the chance the cars are serviced at their dealership as well as keep local (potential repeat customers) happy.

But all that together means if they make 1 of your build request and 1 of mine, they have just as good of chance ending up at the opposite persons local dealership as the chance of them hitting the correct one. And they can’t exchange them. And I can’t travel to your dealer and you to mine as we aren’t local customers. So you and I still wait for our order while two random people walk in and buy the two vehicles we want.

    Ugh

Is this a U.S. thing? My dealer (Canada) told me they had found an AT at another dealer and could exchange it for the MT planned to come here at a later date. In the end I decided to keep waiting for the MT.

Not sure. Multiple US dealers have told me this and none have said otherwise. The “local sales only” is hit and miss as it’s not a corporate mandate. Seems more common in upper Midwest (MN, iL, WI) based on my inquiries.

Looks good! Can’t wait to get my truck and see the color in person. Maybe I’ll see in on the road before then but haven’t yet. It’s such an interesting color - seems somehow like it’s both bold and subtle - cause it’s such a rich color but not metallic, maybe?

I’m interested in how well a bed extender works too. My initial deposit was on a DC 6ft bed but it’s been stuck in limbo at the port for months so my dealer let me put a hold on another allocation, this one a DC 5ft bed. Looking like the 5ft bed will get here first, and I really like the truck, and a shorter bed would come in handy space-wise but would be nice to know I had the option of the bed extender.

I wanted access cab 6ft because nobody will ever sit in the back, waste of space. But if the bed extender works well and a double cab short bed is the only way to get my desired trim, color, and packages, them maybe I should settle.

To me it's like a matte green or a subdued green. I love how it is not metallic and its a color you do not see often. I too am excited to see it in person.:D

11/17/21 allocation request (Lunar Rock OR 4x4 DCSB)

6/3 allocation received (Army Green or White was choices to choose from)
    6/22 build Estimate
    7/12 actual build date
7/20 delivered (two days late, original ETA by July 18)

Overall very happy with the truck that I received. So I did have a really long wait time of about 8 months but at first, I was set on having the tech package/led lights only in the lunar rock color. After about 4 or 5 months of waiting I told my salesman I’m open to any additional colors to help increase my chances. Dealer was helpful through the entire process and did tell me at some point they didn’t receive any Off-road allocation for a few months. And I was kinda far down the waiting list when I submitted my request in November. Oh yeah, and I only paid MSRP! Please don’t pay any market adjustments and be patient. Hopefully the rest of you waiting don’t have to wait too much longer.

I’m hoping the saga ends this week. I might even see my truck in Benicia on the way to the North Bay.

Congrats! How are you liking the army green? I have a deposit on a red truck but it’s stuck at the port in limbo and the two backup options were white or army green. I chose army green but I’ve never seen it in person and I’m a little nervous about it. I’m not really an “army” dude - hoping it can feel like an outdoorsy/foresty green to me. Enjoy your new truck! Gives all of us who are waiting hope :)
