That is the old style setup that used an air volume control and an air charger.

    https://blog.boshart.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-air-volume-controls

To me it would be a good time to upgrade to a modern style pre-charge bladder tank.
The larger a tank you install the less often your pump cycles which saves pump starts.

Electrical is one of those things that I would never skimp on, to many very bad things can happen when stuff goes wrong.

I know just enough electrical to be stupid and have more than enough respect for it to be safe.

I knew I was buying my house when the inspection pulled the panel and said "Wow in 20+ years of inspection I've probably only seen two wiring jobs this clean."

Angry pixies scare the heck out of me, especially the ones that dance back and forth.

Ugh why can't everything be DC?

    My new A/C is D/C.

    Noted.

Unfortunately I just had a surprise $9k bill to get my AC replaced because it was 25+ years old and finally decided to quit so as long as this pump and tank keep working I'd like to keep it till I can upfit with cash not credit.

Would an upfit need a county inspection like my AC install did?

I'm confident enough in my skills that with some education I could redo my pump myself but may not be possible or worth it if it's classified as an inspected/regulated home modification ike the AC was.

Ah the joys of home ownership...

Cheap and electrical are 2 words that should never be used together. The old "pay me now or pay me later" thing.

I have replaced hundreds of the $1 outlets and switches: landlords, purchasing people, home builders and cheap D-I-Y guys buy them.

I suppose if that extra dollar really matters to you you can put them in low use areas like an attic light switch -- I guess... Use one for a bathroom light switch in a family home however and that cheap switch will give trouble in a few years. The service call to replace one switch might cost more than the "savings" for the entire house.

The pressure contactor also has this light switch jutting out of the side, it does kill power to the contacts but boy does that seem sketchy to me, I would not expect a standard light switch to be cool with 240v even if only single phase.

I'm also concerned how a single switch can kill both legs...

    PXL_20220625_175020639~2.jpg

I've just been killing the breaker to work on it, don't trust that light switch to keep 240v back.

Only had to do that once though, had to clean the carbon and arcing off the contacts after it rained hard for a few days and enough ants took refuge in there for it's dryness and became fuses in the contacts.

ants are attracted to the smells of arcing/contacts etc, had a A/C unit get gummed up inside the unit with bunch ants. The A/C repair person said it was common thing in Texas where i lived.

You'd have to look at the metal piece usually tells max voltage like this i circled. But i agree seems sketchy and definitely kill breaker moment

Replacing the pressure tank is quite easy, just a remove and replace of the current tank. The single large water pipe goes to the new tank, the small black line to the air control will be eliminated and a pipe plug put in the pump where it was.

Don't ask, don't tell as far as the inspection is concerned. These tanks fail and are replaced all the time, it would just be a money grab for the county if it required an inspection IMO.

The tanks aren't terribly expensive $300-500 at Lowe's depending on size, maybe a bit better at a local plumbing supply house if you have an in.

A standard light switch breaking one leg of the 240v will stop the pump from running and one leg is only 120v -- it will not stop you however from getting zapped... :bananadead:

Look closely, it probably is a proper double pole switch that breaks both legs, it will have 4 terminals. Commonly found on pool pumps, water heaters, AC units, mid size air compressors, etc.

I haven't opened the box to look at the back of the switch but that makes sense.

I verified with my Fluke meter it was dead after killing the breaker, it wasn't until I was done filling the contact pads and flushing with contact cleaner that I even noticed the switch at all but I verified it does kill both legs with my meter after turning the breaker back on.

It kind of defeat the purpose. I like the stone look of cement.

I might try finding something that would work with rotary polisher. I may call the natural stone place to see what they use when doing granite counter tops.

Epoxy is a good idea. I like the marble look they get on epoxy floors.

hire somebody that knows how to etch concrete to acid etch the whole thing , you'll get a consistent texture on the surface that will not be smooth so no slip hazard in winter
