    Hi everyone,

I am looking to upgrade my 2nd generation 2010 LB SLT to a 3rd Generation LB TRD. I am looking at the years 2016-2019. Any differences I should be aware of in these years? Anything else I should take into consideration? Thanks in advance!

    Oh look, another mod....
The 2016's had a lot of leaky parts on them, namely the 3rd brake light. Other than that, there are no serious defects or issues that stand out.

I have the 2016, I'm at 116k and its been awesome!! I did have the recall on the leaking rear diff, it was covered under
, and they also replaced the 3d brake light, so all good on those issues!! I would definitely recommend that truck and
    year!!!!

2018 and up has Adaptive cruise control and i love it. The auto brake has come in handy also.

2019 was pre Covid and other than no Carplay it's pretty bulletproof.

2017, last of the best. Came with no issues like the 2016s and don’t have stupid nanny features like TSS.

Everyone mentioned what I was about to say when I was doing my research 1 year ago. But during that time used was basically same price as new so I went with a 2021. Don’t regret it at all.

Check for timing cover leak. Massive repair cost to pull engine. Check for rear engine plastic crossover garbage coolant pipe, also a expensive repair.

Unless you're getting a deal on one with higher miles your best deal would be to order a new one. The used truck prices are still crazy at the moment. Unfortunately, it will come with the stupid nanny safety shit.

I have a 2016 SR5 4x4. I have 65k miles without a single drivetrain component failure or any major/expensive issues. My only 'problem' is the 3rd brake light assembly recently started leaking a bit during super heavy rainstorms. Got that fixed out of warranty, barely took 1 day.

Overall I'd be more interested in an earlier 3rd gen made in TX Tacoma than the new ones made in Mexico, plus the newest ones have all the annoying safety crap.

My buddies old 2019 trd had some vibration issues. He couldn't put up with them as my 2020 sr5 has zero. I didn't think they were too bad once he removed his 3'' lift, but he kept comparing his year older tacoma to mine that it shouldn't have any.

I had my truck built in texas simply because i like my stuff built in america, vs a foreign country. I got nothing currently against mexico, they have come a long way.
