I have a 2022 SR5 with auto adjustable drivers seat. Just wanted to ask the forum if it’s normal for the drivers seat to have a metal spring-like thing pressing up against the seat upholstery. Location circled in the picture below. I was on a 350 mile trip and noticed the back of my right thigh felt a little off. Sure enough I pressed against the seat and there’s metal directly touching the upholstery. It has give in it so I assume it’s supposed to be a spring support. There are two in the same area. Is this normal or should I contact my dealer about it? Thanks for your help!

I do not feel any springs on my Tacoma seats. I did have a RAV4 where over time I could feel a spring in my back, but that was to be expected with 185K miles.

Take it back to the dealer. If they try to say it is normal, both of you should sit in the seats of another Tacoma (hopefully they have a new or used one on their lot).

You have the same seats as I. I have never noticed it, but could be because we sit in different positions. I will double check next time I am in the truck. You should also go buy dealer and see if any of the other trucks are doing the same thing

I just checked my seats and do not feel any metal springs where you circled.

I just felt this on my left leg this past week. Same spot. Doesn’t feel sharp, but I’m concerned it will cause the fabric to wear. Plan to bring it up at my next service.

Thanks everyone For the responses. I welcome any other members who can chime in.

It seems odd that it would be a normal thing to have metal touching fabric. I’m definitely going to have to talk to them about it. I’ve never done this with my dealer so I’m interested to see how they treat this grievance.

Thanks! The more people that tell me this, the better case I’ll have if they try and not solve it.

Right! It’s not sharp, but firm enough to agitate the leg. Save this thread and let me know what they do. It just doesn’t seem like it’s supposed to be there. Was it on both sides, or just the left? Mine is on both sides.

Checked mine (not auto adjustable, out of a 2019)
Feels like a piece of plastic down in there that could poke through if the seat wore down but my legs don't really come in contact with those spots

    How many miles OP?

I don't feel anything other than fabric. I do think the seats are somewhat cheap, but I don't feel anything poking me.

I had a noticeable lump in my seat near the bolster (window side) that would ever-so-slightly poke me in the left thigh. Finally brought it up to the dealer just before warranty expired and they removed the cover and found a "foreign object". The lump was resected, apparently, but there is still a hint of a bulge and the material looks stretched/worn where they worked on it. Never learned what the foreign object actually was.

intersting. I’m going to have to head to my dealer and inquire about this. I think something that was supposed to be secured down got missed in production.

Just did the Katzkin leather swap in mine a week or so ago. That's where hog rings are on both sides. Granted they are/should be sunken down quite a bit in that spot. Perhaps there was an issue on the line when your seat upholstery was wrapped on and crimped down?

Just the left (window) side for me.
I took mine to the dealer this morning for a warped grill and asked this be looked at while in. First report is the technician ordered parts for a fix tomorrow. Will report back on what they found and the solution.
