Well we are on day 5 of covid, yesterday was up and down. Fever comes and goes, its low grade but takes me from freezing and shivering to sweating. But at least the headache is gone. Still coughing up mucus but it seems to be in my throat and not my lungs. I'm not having any trouble breathing. Just feel like crap still. I have improved some but not out of the woods yet.
My Betty has it to so we are both home sick and in bed. Her symptoms are milder than mine, I have it much worse. Slow improvement.

Looks like a distant picture of Somerset, PA. Those generators have been there for 20 years. the age may be telling. Up in the Thumb of MI. They are everywhere over on the Bay side. Mostly on agriculture farms. Local farmers, in Huron County, went to DTE about 20 years ago and DTE just laughed. A couple of farmers put one up on the farm, a smaller one, and the rest is history. DTE is not laughing so much now.

I have a friend that lives in Phoenix. He once told me that when it is 105 outside, he does not go out. I cannot blame him.

Today is an easy day. Just laundry and guitar practice.

    Morning all:

My solution has been to pour some gas into the hole at night when they are all in there and then pour a small line of gas to it and light it, so far that has gotten rid of them every time.
If you don't hear a WA WOOM, you didn't pour enough gas in the hole!

Tom, it said that the wind turbine was in Luzerne county Pa.

A friend of mine once worked a bit for the wind power industry and had some interesting remarks about the machines. At that point much of the design work was being done by aircraft engineers and his laconic (cowboy) comment was - "airplanes land - the mills don't, seems to confound them". Apparently "24-7" wasn't in their design handbook. Shortly after after he said this, I was headed to inspect a surface mining machine (dragline) near Hanna, Wyoming and passed a big Boeing machine (on the scale of these present mills) being tested near Medicine Bow, Wyo. Had to stop a minute to take in the scale of it - unusual at that time (30+ years ago). Cranking away in eerie silence. A few weeks later the local radio station reported that the machine had a catastrophic failure - I was headed to Rock Springs and swung by there to take a peek......... the prop was scattered all over the prairie in big chunks. When I questioned my friend, he said the prop pitch control had failed on one blade and it had thrown the whole unit into wild gyrations - local windspeed was over 40 mph (typical in my neighborhood in Casper was 35).

The fields of solar panels seem to be a better maintenance risk to me!

A local landowner wanted to put a solar panel farm in a field, had it all set up so it was above ground, no harm to the fertile land below, easily reversible back into a farmer's field if need be. Township shot it down as being environmentally unfriendly. :notsure:

I got the rotted stairs patched up and put one dose of preservative on them. Still needs another dose. 6 parts borax to 4 parts boric acid; slowly stir 1 pound of the mix into one gallon of hot water, apply it with a sprayer or brush. I used a sprayer because I wanted to do underside and topside. It will eventually leach out and need to be redone but supposedly lasts quite a long time. I'll probably put the second coat on tomorrow.

Did you use the same preservative on the stairs you replaced?

I saturated the whole works. The new wood didn't absorb much -- I assume it is pretty well saturated from the pressure treatment process.

Ah! I get it now. We had them built for us. He used pressure treated lumber. I never put anything else on them, didn't think pressure treated lumber needed anything done to it. I know better now.

My first day of not having to work monday and tuesday on my part time job since I’ve now fully retired. Shipped my company laptop back to them this morning. Felt good not to have to be on another Monday Engineering Team meeting call! :D

Good morning-ish everyone. After my morning walk the clouds were out and I thought it would be a good morning to drain, scrub, clean, balance, and fill the hot tub. I don’t like the shell to bake in the hot sun without water. Got that done. Now I’ll start working on organizing documents for the next person who will get my job at the end of the month. 35E94E66-0E68-462C-BD81-0DCDCC562F1F.jpg72D2171C-2B4A-4B3D-ABE9-73369DFAEEEE.jpg

So happy for you. I’m done on the 26th this month. Was going to do the 31st but my daughter is heading out of town and needs grandpa to tend. My wife will work until May 2023. It will be a long 3 weeks. In an hour I tell the CIO I’m retiring.

Good luck and have a great retirement.

Good for you. Don’t believe them if they ask you if you will work part time until they get a replacement. I agreed and worked part time for 6 months and they never did hire a replacement lol. They tried to hire someone but it fell through. Finally had to say I’m done.

Actually we had a great conversation. He was very appreciative that I hung on until this huge 5 year project was launched and successful. We have worked together for many years as equals but 1 year ago he applied for the CIO job and I didn't. I've reported to him for the last year. He asked if I could serve on the selection committee to interview candidates for my position. Of course I will. We play golf together often and are just good friends. I have my projected payout worksheet, application for my pension submitted, and now notified executive management. The ball is rolling along now.
