    Hello all,

I have a question about something I have noticed with 3rd gen Tacoma's. On my 2nd gen the drain plug for the rear diff is on the passenger side. On the 3rd gens I've seen in the wild I have noticed that some have the drain on the passenger side and some are on the drivers side.

I did see that there are two axle ratios offered, a 4.10 and a 3.90. Does this signify the difference?

    Thanks

The current ratio's that are offered our (3.90 auto v6 / i4 manual) and (4.30 manual v6 and I4 auto)
standard Toyota 8 inch differential has the drain plug in the standard location. The new 8.75 inch differential has the drain on the othe side . The off-road model and all manual get the 8.75. All others get the 8 inch.

Awesome to know! So are all the 4.30 8.75? I was wrong with 4.10. I see the SR access cab manual 4 cyl gets the 3.90. I know my second gen offroad has a 3.73 with the 6 speed.

    Mostly stuff I built.
All manual transmission trucks get the 8.75" rear.
TRD OR & Pro also get the 8.75" AT and MT.

Any updates on which models got the 8.75 rear after 2017? I'm looking for one!

Anything with a factory locker and/or a V6 MT will have the 8.75" rear differential. OR and Pro are E-locker, Sport MT are an open rear carrier.

anyone know the rear diff oil capacity for model TRN245L? Having trouble figuring out correct level. Put in about 3-3.15 quarts before I ran out of fluid and the fluid had yet to start leaking out the fill hole. It's an SR, 4x4, no locking diff, 6 foot bed, 2.7L. I think it's about a quarter inch below the fill hole but it's hard to tell. Should I buy another quart and fill it until it leaks out? safe to drive until I get another quart? Thanks

Looks like 3.22quarts should do it.

The quantity pumped in doesn't matter so much as the level. Shine a flash light in the fill hole and see how close you are to the top; that's how I would judge if it's okay to drive.

Just get another quart and top it off as soon as possible, if you do button it up temporarily.

was hard to see even with a flash light but got some on my finger when i dipped my finger in so it's pretty close to the top.
