You see that positive arc in the spring pack? That's the last time that you will see it. I swapped that same suspension onto my '15 Taco, within 6 months the springs were flat. Now 18 months later they are sagged. The truck gets very little use as a "truck", I will load the utility trailer and use the 4runner to pull it when there is heavy hauling to do.

@Frez1812 No, they arent...Tacoma rear springs, ALL models, are just light duty springs and sag easily...he is being amusing, but your OEM springs held up for however long, these will also under the same use conditions.

Not at first, but they won't last vey long. The original ones on my '15 were so badly sagged the axle was almost hitting the bump stop, so the take-off spings were a huge improvement for not a lot of $$. I just expected them to last longer then 1 1/2 years with minimal usage.

I have a set of 3rd gen take-offs from my 2021 with 800 miles on em. Looking for $100 w/ local pickup in AZ if anyone is interested.

FWIW the 4-leaf 3g packs are a big upgrade to any 2g guys still running the 3-leaf packs.

If you want to use your truck for hauling around stuff it would be better for you to get aftermarket heavy duty leaf springs. They won't sag as much and are much stiffer.

I broke a leaf in my passenger side leaf pack recently and have found a set of 3rd gen takeoffs with an aal already installed. My question is these 3rd gen packs don’t have any hardware, can I use my existing ubolts and shackles or do I need to purchase something else? Hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.

@Steelhead Bum U bolts are a one time use thing, or theyre "supposed" to be..you can reuse them, but i wouldnt. Shackles, yes you can reuse those.

Anybody know the dimensions of the oem u-bolts or can anybody point me in the right direction to find these specs? I am going to get a custom set made locally from a highly reputable spring shop for the new 3rd gen plus aal setup going on the truck. The shop wants to know the oem ubolt dimensions then compare difference in height of oem pack and new pack to calculate the increased length needed for the bolt. Sound right? These are the dimensions I came up with for the oem u-bolts.

diameter at threads: .562” or 9/16
    OD height: 7”
    OD width: 3.5”
    ID width: 2.4325” or 2-7/16”
Oem 3+1 leaf pack height: 2”
    U-bolt style: square

Besides for u-bolts what else needs replaced? How about the front and rear mounting bolts? Not sure of the correct term for them.

And finally if anybody can point me in the direction of the torque specs it would be greatly appreciated. I’m hoping to diy install these this weekend.

    only thing i can find:
These SQUARE RADIUS Grade 5 U-bolts are available in 6.75", 7.75", 8.5" and 9.5" lengths (measured from the inside of the bend radius to the end of the threaded leg).

They will fit Tacoma 4x4 / PreRunner, Tundra, and many other applications that require a 9/16" square radius U-bolt with a 2-9/16" ID. These are custom made in the USA to fit our Toyota applications. Note: These bolts are for standard U-bolt configurations. Do not use with U-bolt flip kits!

Note: As a general guideline, these are the bolt lengths we recommended for each application:

    • 6.75” – 1986-1995 Pickup/4Runner, 1995-2004 Tacoma
    • 7.75” - 2005+ Tacoma
    • 8.50” - 1999-2006 Tundra
    • 9.50” - 2007+ Tundra
And if you're swapping springs, its always a good idea to replace any hardware that you can.

from another post about springs: Spec is 89ft-lbs for the spring eye and shackle bolts. Leave them loose until everything is assembled and the truck is sitting on the suspension to prevent excess torsion of the rubber bushings in the normal position, which will accelerate bushing failure. Unless you are using polyurethane bushings, in which case it doesn't matter.

Thank you. I’ll remeasure the overall height of the u-bolt to double check my measurements. It appears to be the only one that’s significantly off in terms of the dimensions provided. I’ll inquire about replacing spring eye bolts while I’m there.

Is the ext cab and double cab leaf springs all the same? Are they the same length?

Just to verify do the OEM 3rd gen leafs sit .5-1" higher then 2nd Gen?
