It is a part time Direct Injection engine. Engine load dependent.

Ahh yes when ONLY gas is applied then it has nothing to do with tires, suspension or bushings related.

My 2021 has sealed u-joints not sure if 2018’s have u-joints with zerks. Might need to grease them.

I second the rotate tires and grease the zerks recommendation.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Did you state what tires, what size, how many miles on them, and in what condition?

A lot of 10 ply E rated off road tires cause vibrations and noise as they age.

I run BFG KO2, 10 ply E rated. When new, they are smooth and quiet. After 30K miles on them, my truck vibrated like crazy and noisy as all get out. Brutally so.

Ditched them at 45K miles, and put same tires on again as I am off road a lot and they stand up well. I can tolerate the vibration issues as they age. My truck takes a beating, so be it.

The new KO2s have been on for 6 months now, and dead quiet and no vibrations at any speed or when under very heavy load.

2016 TRD OR, 65K miles on it, approaching 15K off road miles.

65 years old here, on my 4th 4x4 and I have seen a lot of vibration issues related to tires. On my last balance on the old KO2s, 2 were out of round. Belt damage not visible from the outside.

That can happen due to defect, or in my case a lot of hard offroading on washboard roads and boulders and such. Plus add weather to that, snow, rain, extreme heat etc and it happens.

Now, a number of Tacoma owners do have other vibration issues that are fairly common, but don’t overlook the tires.

As far as tires, you can even get a bad set of new tires that cause vibration. I had one of those sets. My tundra vibrated at either 45 mph, or 70. It drove me, and the tire shop guys crazy till they gave me another new set a month later. Problem gone.

Yup, had the same. Many years ago, 1986 Ford F150, and a brand new set of Toyo Open Country that got sidewall bulges in less than 1,000 miles. All 4 tires. A bad batch. Got new ones on warranty and they were good for years.

This is NOT a tire issue. If it were, the buzzy vibration would not go away as soon as I let off the gas, it would be more constant.

This is a very specific vibration that happens only in high gear when I step on the gas pedal part Throttle.

I can accelerate through it but it buzzes at the sweet spot where I would be cruising normally on the highway

Does the 2018 have greasable zerks? I don't think they do.

Front driveshaft is irrelevant unless I'm in 4WD

Probably to do with the transmission deciding wether or not it wants to downshift. If it goes away once the gear drops, that would be it. My 2018 does weird shit like this all the time. It jerks during some shifts, it shutters/vibrates sometimes(especially in OD) before it drops a gear, it clunks sometimes when slowing down. The way I look at it these days is if I don't see the check engine light, its normal. I've only got 28k miles on it. It started doing it about 10k miles ago.

Toyota dealer isn't going to do anything about it unless the check engine is on, flashing, and can't be cleared.

Yep, old ECU calibration used to do that. Especially in the RPM range OP specified.

That's wonderful. Im glad I've saved and made sacrifices and waited 6 long years for this..... How disappointing. I get a very faint rear end whine too. It's not a loud howl but it's definitely noticeable. Honestly can't wait to unload this thing for the new 2023 Colorado. my old and supposedly "unreliable" Chevys NEVER gave me problems like this. My 2001 Silverado rides better than my Tacoma.

Shouldn't the front drive shaft always be rotating with the front wheels? It will only be connected to engine power through the transfer case and transmission until in 4WD though.
