Looking to upgrade shocks on my 07 TRD Sport
Can I just buy new Bilstein shocks and throw them in? I’m guessing there’s multiple different kinds/sizes? Any help for a noob is appreciated!

Rears are easy - you just need the correct sockets/wrenches
Struts are a little more complicated. There are plenty of instructional vids on youtube.

Ensure you get an alignment if you mess with your front suspension setup.

Ok cool. Thank you. But what about sizing? I don’t want to lift it or anything. Just reply the stock ones in there.

So you can go OEM bilstiens, they are 42mm and will ride like new again.

    Aftermarket oem stock choices are

    KYB Excel G for cheap.
KYB Gas a just for a better than stock ride.
Bilstien 4600, 46mm shock, better for offroading.
Bilstien 5100, 46mm shock, but designed for offroading. So more firm but better characteristics offroad.

Thank you! This is what I needed.
if I go with the Bilstien 5100, 46mm shock. Do I need to do any other upgrades to the suspension at all? Just reply the OEMs that are in there?

    Appreciate the info!

No but you should read up on the 5100's, you can level the sagging on your front end with its adjustability.

Typically tacomas sag on the left front due to weight differential.

So you set the left front just a tad higher and it will look "balanced again"

You can set them to 0 easily and it will drive fine. But I'd suggest 0 on the right and 1 on the left.

So go 5100 46mm instead of the 5600 or OEM?

I won’t be doing the install myself. But I’ll remember the ask them to set them at 0 on the Right and 1 on the Left

If you like firm ride, 5100, soft 4600.

I don't like the oem shocks on the sport model, I find them to be just a tad too firm and they shit the bed offroading of any sort.

I run 4600's personally, but I kinda wish I got the 5100's simply for the gravel road I take often. Both are good choices.
