I actually had the chance to go to Iwo during workups for E-2/C-2, we ran up Mount Suribachi a few times and it was awesome! There’s actually dog tags left from service members placed on the memorial. Such an unbelievable island!

yeah, hardly anyone can go unless you’re AD, or a vet. The Japanese military are actually stationed there, and run the fuel pits.

That’s actually a good thing a tourist attraction is a bit cheesy better left alone.

Not crazy off-roading but about as peaceful as you can get.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
What a great looking dog there. Sure looks happy.

Back in March, my kids and I took a trip to Baja. On a whim, we got a late start on the trail to Mision Santa Maria, outside the town of Catavina. Well with the Mision almost in sight, I turned back. The trail became increasing ugly and I felt it just wasn't safe to do with one vehicle. I vowed to return and last weekend did so, with a couple other capable rigs including a 4Runner OR and a Jeep Rubicon.

We drove down and made it to Rancho Santa Ines, where we stayed the night, before hitting the trail at 0700. It was just as it was in March, rocky and increasingly rough within the last mile of the Mision. Lots of crawling and giant boulders to dodge or drive over.
Decending a super steep decomposed granite chute, I told myself I would stay left to avoid the boulder on the right, but didn't follow though. I sustained a little rash on the right front bumper (stage 2 SSO here I come!), slid along my slider and dinged my rear quarter panel. My new aluminum RCI skids did their job, though an exhaust re-route and a flat tranny skid are in the works because the one that protects the stock exhaust is a rock magnet.

The mision from the 1700s was interesting and after some more wheeling beyond, we hiked to an pool in the canyon. Great trip, very rough and a great start to a week that involved hammering beastly fish.

I used to ride - moto and MTB - and wheel up there a lot in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s. It was always fun in the early summer when there were still a few snowbanks to deal with.
