It looks like Toyota’s EV is having some issues.

isn't it the wheels, not the drivetrain?

Yep, just the wheels. Not many in the big scheme of things,

“The company is recalling a number of bZ4X vehicles, including some 2023 model year ones, over faulty wheels. According to Reuters, the total number of vehicles recalled is 2,700, with 2,200 of those earmarked for Europe, 260 for the U.S., 110 for Japan, and 10 for Canada”

Yes, it does seem that way but I’m fairly sure they’ve done vehicles with wheels attached by lug nuts before. Why are they having an issue this time?

Guessing human error of improper torquing of the lugnuts.

I did that once years and years ago on my ‘72 Chevelle, had a wheel fall off during a test run after doing the brakes (was exhausted) will never do it again. Quadruple check them now.

I wonder what kind of issues the Compact Cruiser will have? They will be sharing the same platform.

No way it's just improperly tourqued lugs. Look what they offering the owners while they come up with a solution.

Maybe the studs are shearing off, or hubs becoming disconnected. Only guessing.

Could lead to a catastrophic crash causing severe injury or death, so I can see why they are offering what they are.

Can the power grid support charging 10x the number of EVs in 5 years?

Likely? Depends on where you live and charge rate, but most people need about 15 kWh a day or so at most. Your typical centeral AC takes a bout 1 kW, so it's basically about the same as running your a/c all day.

Hey, my question is much more basic…this is focused on cumulative future power needs. Current grids are stretched thin so when you add 1 kW to 50% of the households 5 years from now, do you think there will be infrastructure to support the increased demand?

This is why 'demand response' programs exist which tell the EVs to stop charging during peak consumption hours when relevant infrastructure (substations, power lines, etc) gets stressed, which is the biggest problem with peak use. Otherwise, we do have plenty of electricity production. Also.. it won't be 50% of households. EVs aren't selling that much %wise, and most people don't replace their vehicles but around once a decade.

TX and CA will be screwed if they don’t do some upgrades soon. Everyone else should be fine.

You already cried about this in this thread already.

Why are you folks always making the assumption that the status quo will remain??

"Oh, well, you could NEVER just switch to all EVs overnight because, uh, the GRID. Yeah! The GRID as it currently is couldn't support any of it! Ha! I am special because I am the only one ever to think of this argument against any sort of progress!"

    BORING

California has had issues for at least 20 years. I remember that thankfully a rolling brownout happened when I was at the theater watching AI - Artificial Intelligence and I never saw the last 30 minutes. I wish it had happened sooner that day.
