Ideas on how to secure 2x10 boards used in the bedliner as barriers

I have the Toyota bedliner in my 04 ext. cab. Rather than have crap slide all around in the bed, AND to allow me to carry full sheets of stuff if I ever need to, I got two 2x10 boards cut to the width of the bottom of the bedliner. I slid the boards into the to formed recessed areas and they worked great...for about 2 weeks. With some jostling around, the little bottom corners of the wood got rounded off and worn, and then the boards would just fall over in about 2 minutes of driving after re-setting them.

The main problem is that the bad liner walls are not straight up and down. They go out like \____/ slightly. So, my boards that were cut straight, really only "grabbed" at the very bottom, if that makes sense. Last night, I spend a while cutting wedges to screw onto the end of my boards so that they will better follow the widening angle of the bedliner, as it goes up. It's definitely a more snug fit, but I'm worried that over time, the wood will wear again and I'll start having the same issue.

I can't be the only one who likes having the separation in the bed and the full-sheet capability, so what is everyone else doing? I feel like there should be some kit available that securely lets you put the boards in the bedliner in a real way, rather than sort of rigged in there.

Any thoughts?

 

take measurements of the top and bottom width then do a little calc to determine the angle. get it cut right

 

i just use a bed bar. ..actually, i have 2 of them. ..they work great when i need to prevent random items from sliding around.

 

It's nearly impossible to get it cut for an exact fit. Hard to describe, but the bedliner notches "stop" about 7/10ths of the way up the side, then it starts to be just the normal liner pattern, which is little bumpy ridges.

 

That looks neat, but, would it punch through the bedliner? The liner isn't skin tight on the metal and I'd think it could crack right through.

 

I have mine pretty tight and it's fine. I just took it out yesterday to load some stuff up and there's no marks or anything. But it's adjustable so if you feel it's as tight of a fit as possible then just don't crank it anymore. And it works a lot better than wood!

 

I got rid of my bedliner for that reason, did a spray on everywhere and got one of those rubber bedmats, now nothing slides.

 

Yeah id remove the factory liner, I took mine off around 95k and the paint under the liner is pretty much gone. I don't care really but I'm glad I took it off so it didn't wear through the primer and start rusting.. just save your pennies and get yourself a real nice spray in liner

 

This. I cut mine to follow the wedge pattern of the bedliner inserts and it works great.

The only difference, I used 2X8's.
